over the Great Decade” to celebrate it great success in promoting teaching excellence program

Technical Division of the Ministry of Education has promoted teaching excellence program for 10 consecutive years since 2006, to optimize the quality of teaching and create school characteristics in technical colleges and universities. To showcase the achievements of these schools over the past ten years, the Ministry held the exhibition on August 26 and 27 on the 13th floor at Tainan Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store the exhibition. The exhibition had its theme as “Excellent Technical Education over the Great Decade,” which gathered the fruits of the splendid performances from 38 colleges and universities of science and technology nationwide as well the achievements of the North, Central, and South Regional Resource Centers over the past 10 years. It included five subjects: "Excellent Efficacy over the Decade," "Student Practicum Achievements," "Innovation in Teaching," "Students’ International Mobility," and “Teaching Resource Sharing," with a total of 82 items in display. For the grand opening ceremony on August 26, the Ministry invited Director Wei-Cheng Lin of the Administration of Southern Taiwan Science Park, Mayor Ching-De Lai, Secretary in Chief Nan-Shian Chu of the Ministry of Education, Director Yu-Hui Yang of Technical Division of MOE, President Chien Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and many other important guests. In addition to the many exhibition booths, there were dynamic performances in the stage area, showcases, fun games, free bulk stickers, good luck lottery and other activities. Participants experienced a fun trip through the excellent achievements of technical education, thereby having further understanding of the characteristics of technical and vocational education.

Mayor Ching-De Lai said that, on behalf of Tainan City, he would like to congratulate the Ministry of Education for its success in promoting technical excellence program over the past ten years. He also thanked the Ministry of Education and, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and many other universities of science and technology for their support and choosing Tainan City as the host city of the exhibition. Mayor Lai asked parents and school teachers to encourage their children and students to take technical and vocational education, since science and technology will surely play a very important role for the future economic development of our country. In addition, Mayor Lai also mentioned that there had appeared some crossings on the two once parallel lines of regular high schools and technical and vocational high schools. Great examples are the seven science and technology universities Tainan City, which have had outstanding performances over the past years.

Secretary in Chief Nan-Shian Chu of the Ministry of Education said that graduates of the universities of Science and Technology in Taiwan have become the primary part in the mainstream job market of industry. Over the past decade, talented young people from college and universities of science and technology have formed a great generation in both technical skills and professional attitude, much affirmed by the employers in different industries. A lot of students had been asked to join the internship in workplace before they graduated from colleges and universities of science and technology; some students had been officially employed even before graduation. In order to make talented young people join their workforce, the recent years have seen a lot of industries actively put induced equipment and funds for industry-university cooperation. Many universities of science and technology have brought their students’ works based on research and development to world invention exhibitions, design exhibitions, and film festivals. As a result, they have a great number of awards and technology transfers. These should be evidence of the achievements of the Ministry of Education in promoting the teaching innovation for colleges and universities of science and technology.

President Chien Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that the combination of business internship resources and good practitioners as the guide of student practice has been closely linked to the industry, serving to make technology take root in Taiwan, so students can learn more valuable experiences and understand the dynamics of industry in the internship environment. It has shown great convergence of jobs for students in the future. The performance of teaching excellence over the past few years has shown the bright future of technology. As for Tainan, in addition to its food, ancient buildings, there is also a strong atmosphere for artistic and cultural aspects. Thus, he welcomed friends from all over the country to Tainan and asked them to visit the city after the exhibition.
