New revolution for bicycle parking!! Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held a "Bicycle Parking Brick Lock" conference.    2017/10/27

Supported by the plan of the Ministry of Education to develop a model science and technology university project, Prof. Jia-Cheng Chang of the Department of Innovative Product Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, led his students to design the "Bicycle Parking Brick Lock." STUST held a press conference on October 27 to demonstrate its transition from design concept to prototype product and the current actual setting of the product in campus showing how it has made students implement their teamwork and show their creative energy.

With the rising awareness of environmental protection and the prevalence of recreational sports, riding a bicycle seems to have become a trend. However, Taiwan has never had a sound plan for bicycles, nor has it ever created a friendly environment for bicycles. As a result, random parking always occupies sidewalks, while bicycle theft rate remains very high. Even if a bicycle comes with a key lock or a password lock, the locking condition is still very unreliable; after the theft, the bicycle is not easy to find. The "Bike Parking Block Lock" is designed as a new form of public bicycle parking facility. It combines bicycle parking frame with sidewalk tiles, and it help improve the space while saving time for users. With the Implicit parking brick, it can significantly reduce the impact on passers-by and allow a large number of bicycles arranged on the sidewalk so as to make the parking distance more comfortable.

The "Bicycle Parking Brick Lock" is easy to operate. After the bike is led into the parking brick, the rider just taps the lock to turn the locking on, allowing users to simultaneously park and unlock in one single act, without the need to have his own lock. It can easily save time and make cycling a sport in an elegant style. In addition, the lock has won many invention patents in Taiwan, Japan, Europe and other countries. It won the 2014 Pittsburgh Invention Exhibition, the 2013 IF-Concept Design Award 2013, Youth Design Festival 2013 - Design Gold Award, 2013 New Generation Design Award - Product Design Gold Award, and 2013 Next Generation Design Award - Silver Award for Space Design.

President Chien Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology takes "industrial application" as its orientation and accumulates rich achievements in patented research and development year after year. It encourages teachers and students to participate in international invention exhibitions and competitions, and it also strengthens the foundation of basic technologies, technology research, and development of commercialization. The "Bicycle Parking Brick Lock" is now first set up in the campus. The award winning design will be implemented in a campus environment, which can simultaneously measure performance and add landmarks to effectively promote publicity for follow-up technical transactions, patent transfer, and authorization.
