  Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology worked with Taipei Pop Music Center for the belief that music can give back to society: STUST invited Director Du-Lan Ding for a talk on concert production and stage technology.    2018/1/10    

 

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology invited Director Du-Lan Ding of Taipei Pop Music Center, who is also the Producer of Mayday World Tour, to share his experience of concert production with students of the Department of Popular Music Industry. He shared his knowledge and experience concerning stage technology and personally demonstrated how a director takes lead of his staff at a concert. His speech was both rich and practical, winning warm responses from the students. According to Director Ding, Believe in Music Studio, established by the famous Taiwanese pop music group Mayday, upholds the corporate conscience of "taking from society and giving back to the society." It pays tribute to the community through practical actions and has sponsored a number of popular music lectures organized by the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology in the 106th academic year. It has also invited a lot of important features in the industry as lecturers to help the students.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology is the first university in Taiwan to have a Department of Popular Music Industry. Since its establishment in 2015, it has been dedicated to nurturing talents with the leading companies in the popular music industry. In addition to working with A-Line Radio, Billion Loans Club, and Cheng Rotary Club on conducting industry-academia cooperation in 2006, STUST also send outstanding students to the well-known concert production company "Bing Creation" for a 320-hour summer internship. At present, the Department of Popular Music Industry and the Arts Creation Center in the university are making good use of the funding of the two subsidy programs of the Ministry of Culture—"University-run Programs and Departmental Education for Popular Music" and "Counseling for the Innovation and Creation of Arts and Arts Industries." With both funds, STUST hired industry experts for collaborative teaching on concert stage production, purchased stage production of teaching equipment, and anchored its focus on cultivating the potential of pop music backup teams for students.

Acting President Deng-Maw Lu said that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has reached a consensus with the Taipei Pop Music Center to cooperate in the future concerts, not only on the teaching materials for the development of stage technology and license system, but also on the training of concert stage engineers with international standards. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology intends to integrate the resources of the government, academia, and research institutes, in order to step by step cultivate popular music education and gradually gain recognition and support from the world. It will continue to expand cooperation and exchanges with the industry to enhance students' employability.
