Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology recently held the Achievement Exhibition for Specialized Class, as a result of its implementation of The Future University Promotion Project—Eco-Innovation Program Class A by the Ministry of Education. The exhibition encompassed 37 works by freshman and sophomore students, focused on issues about elderly care. In addition, there are also 16 group exhibitions by freshman students on concepts related to studies in physics. The results were all very impressive.

The works in the showcase includes a lot of great designs by the students of the specialized class, including two works that had won the 2017 Kaohsiung KIDE International Invention and Design Exhibition: “On your feet and Keep you fit (OK)" and "Wherever you go Wherever you sit" (gold medal winners) and“Tap to Health" (silver medal winner). Another winning work by the class was “Real Online Xperience” (ROX), which took the first place at the Corning Star Innovative Applications Contest and received NT$ 300,000 as prize money. ROX employed glass materials and optical fiber technology, which effectively enhanced the efficiency of gaming machines, bring the online gaming industry to a completely new level. In addition, TDS (Three Display Screen) also received an Excellent Award and NT$10,000 as its prize money.

Following the model of Oulin Engineering College, the College of Engineering University is in charge of Future University Promotion Project. It has established cross-disciplinary engineering classes and constructed high-quality environment to loosen the binding of the existing school system. It holds "learning while doing" as the key to the entire program. Practical topics for each semester is the core for a series of courses, emphasizing teamwork and working together and hoping to establish a new generation of technical engineering education model. Undergraduates in the first semester are expected to be able to compete with the industry in innovative competitions and have excellent performance. Students can introduce the special features of their own groups through exhibitions and, according to the students' ability, express the function and completeness of works and the value of innovative ideas. The group’s score is also included in the assessment of their final results. Visitors who visited the exhibition and scored their works included the teachers and students from six universities, including National Cheng Kung University, Longhua University of Science and Technology, and many partner companies in the industry.

Acting President Deng-Maw Lu of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that with the implementation of Future University Promotion Project, STUST hoped to open up a new-generation model for vocational and technical education, which focuses on a "learning while doing" teaching method, trying to enhance students' practice of theoretical knowledge and lead students to learn by themselves. It is the only way to nurture practical talents across various disciplines.
