The USR team of STUST—Youth and Elderly Co-Creation to Create Local Intelligent Ageless Power— recently held a cross-domain cooperation forum on manpower, long-term care, and medical care in the super-elderly society. It mainly responded to the advent of Taiwan's super-elderly society in 2025 and provided guidance for the current social care manpower. In order to find solutions to the shortage, this event invited Representative Director Yoshiko Shimomoto, who is a natural care method expert, General Manager Jun-ming Tsai of Furoto Business Co., Ltd., and Dr. Feng-hua Liu, Director of Broad & Broad Home Medical Clinic, to share and jointly conduct Talent cultivation for precision health care and exchanges between Taiwan and Japan. The event kicked off with a speech by R&D Director Tsong-yuan Guo of STUST.

Representative Director Yoshiko Shimomoto has been committed to promoting nature care for a long time and has cooperated with the Youth and Elderly Co-creation USR project team of STUST for many years. In the forum, a more in-depth introduction was given on how to share experience in the application and effectiveness of natural care under the shortage of super-elderly manpower in Japan. In clinical practice, the practice of transferring postures with bare hands often increases the risk of occupational injuries for caregivers and affects the patients. For the comfort of the caregiver, the Japanese natural care method was introduced, emphasizing natural movement care, appropriate posture and daily care skills, which is of great significance to improving the health and quality of life of the person being cared for. In addition, relevant practical experts, doctors and scholars in Taiwan shared their experience with the dilemmas happening to their developments in the face of current shortage of care manpower. As a result of Comparing their experiences ed with those from Japan, they found the importance of natural care methods and cross-field cooperation and application in promote and Implementing long-term care and medical care for the elderly.

As Manager Tsai of Furoto pointed out, while we welcome the advent of a super-elderly society, various fields and industries will undergo changes and have needs. the usual care, medical care, nursing, rehabilitation, and nutrition are no longer sufficient; all the major fields, including architecture, technology, tourism, law, and even finance, will be integrated with the issues of elderly care.

Dr. Lu, who is a leader with 30 years of experience in the elderly care industry, long-term investment in the field of long-term care, talent cultivation, and long-term work in the home-based medical field, showed an incisive analysis of the dilemmas, and explained the methods and strategies to respond to cross-domain needs. Practical experts were also invited to discuss the topic. Director Yoshiko Shimomoto shared Japan’s practical experience in cross-disciplinary integration of long-term care and response to manpower shortage, which have facilitated the century-old work of cultivating people and made it possible to be promoted faster in all walks of life. This can help Taiwan prepare for the arrival of a super-elderly society next year.

Mei-zhu Chen, host of Youth and Elderly Co-Creation USR Project, said that the goal of this forum is to gain a deeper understanding of the application effectiveness and development of natural care in Japan, to discuss its promotion and application status in clinical practice in Taiwan, and to promote the practice of long-term care for the elderly, building connections and developing talent cultivation. She looks forward to improving the quality of long-term care services in Taiwan, getting prepared for a super-elderly society, making the long journey of care more secure, and enabling the elderly to live a happy old life with health, happiness, and dignity.
