Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) will established the Department of Popular Music Industry in the 104th academic year, approved by the Ministry of Education to be the first department related to the industry of popular music in Taiwan. For the first time, the Ministry of Culture plans to grant a projected annual fund of NTD 0.4 billion to incorporate popular music into formal education and to encourage colleges to offer related programs, thereby formally

institutionalizing the education for popular music talent. STUS is expected to enroll 45 new students for the first year. In an attempt to closely link itself with the industry and understand its key directions, STUST invited Deputy Director Chou of the Department of Cultural Affairs of Tainan City, Producer/singer Ming-Yu Chie and many other music workers, as well as teachers engaged in music education and performing arts from high schools around the island.
