Let’s go! Sleepover at the home of a local family: A great start for International
students to experience Taiwanese culture

In response to the trend of internationalization as a way to increase the output of higher education in Taiwan, the office of "Friendly Taiwan—International Student Homestay Plan" was established. It aims to create a friendly learning environment for international students, with host families helping them understand more about Taiwanese culture. This is the fifth year of this project, which every year offers training courses for host families as well as activities for cultural experience activities, helps match international students with host families, and has created more than 2,200 friendly host families for over 1,000 international students to stay with.

International students are allowed to stay with host families and experience the real life of Taiwanese family, thereby creating not only a better understanding of Taiwanese culture but also an emotional link with Taiwan. For international students, host families make them feel like having another warm home, where they no longer feel alone and helpless even though they are so far away from home in an international land. For host families, they have found it easy to build up a bridge of international friendship in their own homes, to simply hold out their arms to embrace the world, and to really feel exotic cultures at home.
