Fires and earthquakes have been found frequently everywhere around the world. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held a disaster prevention and evacuation practice on October 8, 2014 to make each boarding student know better about where to find and use the fire apparatus in dormitory and how to make use of escape routes. It is hoped that boarding students can quickly find the escape routes, safely getting away from any disaster, if it occurs, by taking regular drills and preparations.

Four section chiefs of Ho-Wei Fire Department, Taiwan City--Hua-Chien Chang, Chung-Yue Ko, and other two professional instructors—were invited to bring students more knowledge about earthquakes and show them how to use and operate fire apparatus and how to survive a fire. These are particularly important for the sixth student dormitory, a 13-floor building where there live about 1,900 students and which therefore requires well-planned escape routes.
