"Great English students" gathered at STUST for the 2014 national English spelling
contest for students from vocational high schools nationwide

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology organized the 2014 national English spelling contest for students from vocational high schools nationwide. On the 2nd of November, 103 students from 28 high schools participated in the contest with great enthusiasm.

The contest was organized by the Applied English Department and sponsored by the Ministry of Education through its grant for teaching excellence. The participants were grouped into English majors and non-English majors and given tests based on the commonly used words for high school students (grade 3-5 and grade 3- 4, respectively) announced by the Ministry of Education. The test material is divided into three types: "Multiple choice: from English to Chinese," "Read Chinese, Listen to English, and Spell them all,” “Multiple choice, from Chinese to English,” with a total of 300 questions altogether as a computer-based test
