The Gold Medal Winner "Solar Strap," an invention by the R & D team of Electronic Engineering Department directed by Prof. Wen-Jun Chang, Prof. Jin-Cheng Guo and Prof. Yun-Chun Lin, employs sunlight to make solar panels produce pn junction depletion region and makes use of its conductivity. The user does not need to worry about lack of electricity suddenly halfway when taking pictures outdoors. It can also increase the power capacity of battery.

Another Gold Medal Winner "Charging Station" combines microcontroller and battery charge / discharge circuit to produce a rapid recycling of the remaining electricity of waste batteries, so that energy can be reused and carbon reduction can be achieved. The system works by using a microcontroller to implement the pulse width modulation of charging circuits, so as to collect the remaining electricity from waste battery and put it into normal battery for reuse. In addition, the invention can also ensure the safety of the entire charge / discharge process and avoid the problem of short circuit from happening.
