Take control of our own spotlight: Southern Taiwan University of Science and
Technology won the National Creative LED Design Competition with its creation—"Aurora."

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology participate in the 2015 National LED Creative Design Competition with its creation "Aurora," a work developed by Professor Wan-Rong Zhang of the Department of Electronic Engineering teacher and his research team. The teacher and his students created a LED that can change its brightness and color according to one’s personal favorite shad. While It adds visual effects, it can lower the overall cost for each conversion. The works won the first place in the competition.

The 2015 National LED Creative Design Contest" was held in the tunnel of National Sun Yat-sen University. Among the 302 works, 245 were chosen from the preliminary contest. The work "Aurora" was designed by Wan-Rong Zhang of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and Professor Yi-Yu Hou of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Far Eastern University of Science and Technology. It is different from the traditional lamp in that it is not limited by the size of the shade created by traditional lamp cover, which often reduces illuminated area and lead to inadequate brightness. Given the shape of the traditional lamp cover, brightness cannot be adjusted in accordance with changes in the environment. The problem often gets worse due to display position and the external environment. The teacher and his students created a LED that can change its brightness and color according to one’s personal favorite shad. While It adds visual effects, it can lower the overall cost for each conversion.

The competition is divided into two categories: "creative lantern design" and "design applications." Students from all levels of school were invited to team to participate the competition. The competition featured creativity, ingenuity, and integration of technology and aesthetics to be found in the participating designs and their productions of distinctive LED photoelectric. With the great event of display technology in the creative combination of lanterns, it was hoped to make people know more about trends of technology, elevate the sense of humanities in students, and enhance the development of creative culture on campus
