Congratulations! Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won a triple crown in the Digital Signal Processing Design and Creative Thinking Competition: "New detector of distracted needle and endo-leak" won both the championship and the qualification to participate in the international tournament.
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held, on March 13, the Digital Signal Processing Design and Creative Thinking Competition. There were a total of 148 participating teams from 18 colleges and universities, including the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, with approximately 457 people taking part in the competition. As for the finals today, a total of 96 teams, with approximately 286 people, showed up. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won all the three groups of competition as well as 18 out of the 60 awards. It became the biggest winner of all the participating teams. In addition, the R & D team lead by Professor Yi-Nan Du won the first place with their "New detector of distracted needle and endo-leak" and became a qualified candidate for admission to participate in international competitions.

"New detector of distracted needle and endo-leak" is the fruitful device of the research by the development team led by Professor Yi-Nan Du of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. It came with soft sensing side to put on the rugged surface of a patient’s hemangioma. When the needle is off substantial leakage occurs (> 0.1 cc), the device will immediately detect it and send out warning signals. With this device, there is no risk of needle oppression, while the sensing range is enlarged. There are sensors on the back of touch sensing circuit; when either end of the self-shedding surface is off, the device can issue a warning to prevent anyone from intentionally or unintentionally removed the needle. This device complies with health regulations, with such advantages as simple production procedures and inexpensive supplies, and a lot of technological advantages over other products. Indeed, it comes with a considerable potential for commercialization.
