To foster professionals in English teaching and industrial personnel:
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology organized the "2015 International Symposium of English for Specific Purposes."

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held on May 20 to 21 grand opening of the 2015 International Symposium of English for Specific Purposes at the International Conference Hall. This symposium, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, featured Dr. Brian Paltridge, Professor of education at the University of Sydney, Australia, and Dr. Guang-Wei Hu, Associate Professor of English Department of Nanyang Polytechnic University, Singapore, as well as teachers and students from academics and universities related English language. Approximately 200 people gathered for two days to attend the conference and workshops for the publication of their search papers.

The themes of the conference included a reflection on English teaching methods, needs and expectations in IT industry and foreign language training, professional English corpus research, professional English teacher education, development trend of English professionals, demand and supply in English workplace, reflect on general English teaching from a professional/ industrial point of view, and many other specialized English related issues.

In the General Assembly on May 21, Dr. Brian Paltridge spoke on "Ethnographic Perspectives on English for Academic Purposes Research, while Dr. Guang-Wei Hu presented this research on "Disciplinary Culture and Academic Discourse.” In the two lectures, the two professors elaborated on the specialized needs of current, use of languages, and teaching and learning under the influence of globalization. They showed that there has been a major qualitative change in the policy of language education, which would push the development and content of language learning and teaching to address new trends and vary accordingly.

In addition, the symposium also had arrangement for twelve researchers from various universities in the country to present professional and research experience in six sessions, each workshop focusing on different topics. After the conference, papers will be assembled and made into proceedings, providing domestic organizations for reference.
