Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology organized the "2015 Junior
High English Summer Camp" to promote the international value-added model of Tainan as a bilingual city.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology continued to promote the internationalization of the campus, especially with the Australian sister school. This year STUST held a grand "2015 Junior High English Summer Camp" in the summer, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, as part of its TEEP plan. It also worked to promote the policy of Tainan City to make English the second official language of the city in a 10-year upgrading plan. In order to impress the college students from Australia and Taiwan, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held the opening ceremony on July 2 for the 2015 International Summer Camp activities, hosted by the President Tai, with such guests as Yu-Chan Chiu, Counselor of International and Cross Strait Education Office, MOE, and Shih Chun Liu, Deputy Secretary of Tainan City Government, Jia-Chia Lei, Representative of Australian Office in Taiwan, and Rei-Si Fu, the Deputy Director of Economic and Policy Branch Division.

In the summer camp, there were 20 Australian students coming to Taiwan to lead the groups to practice English, and the requirement for recruitment was a basic English listening and speaking ability and good expression of spoken language. The "Understanding Tainan" English Summer Camp helped both local students and Australian students to have better understanding and ideas of Tainan culture, not only allowing students to enhance their international outlook and English strength, but also promoting foreign students with a thorough understanding of Tainan and Chinese history, culture, heritage, food, etc. The entire activity left great impression of Taiwan in the hearts of visitors and local students as well.

President Tai said that this activity was made possible as a English Summer Camp by the TEEP plan of the Ministry of Education. In addition to the fact that local students could enhance their English language skills and international perspective, this activity could obviously create distinctive experience as lessons and activities to allow students to experience the traditional quintessence of Australia in terms of its customs, culture and cuisine. More importantly, the Tainan City Government has been promoting its policy of making "English as a second official language" and its pursuit of the next bilingual city. This TEEP program achieved in promoting international development of Tainan City government and should be able to play and have a positive effect and profound significance.

In recent years, Taiwan has a partnership with Australia, and there have been many students to visit Australia and study there. Under the Australian government’s policy to cooperate with Taiwan this year, there are more than fifty students visiting Taiwan. The TEEP event had 17 students from the University of Western Sydney and 3 students from Wollongong University in Australia; they joined in the summer camp activities and created an important start. It is greatly hoped that we can have a very enjoyable experience and abundant harvest in the whole activity.
