Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the 2015 TiC100 Social
Entrepreneurship Competition and $150,000 NT

"Lanes from the Heart," an interdisciplinary team from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology participated in the 2015 TiC100 Social Entrepreneurship Competition, organized by Taiwan Social Enterprise Innovation and Entrepreneurship Society. The team made its debut with their project on Shinyi Street in Tainan City to promote humanities, invigorate old streets, and deal with youth identity and other issues. Putting community activation and cultural respect in the heart of their concept, the team achieved a sustainable development plan combining entrepreneurial action and social problem solution. The team eventually won the competition from among the 63 teams and was awarded $150,000 NT.

The team "Lane from the heart" was formed by students from different departments in the College of Business—Yia-Shuan Tsa, Jian-Yiao Hung, Chiao-Min Chang and Shin-Yin Hung and many others, led by Prof. Bi-Chin Tsun and Prof. Jie-Ju Chen. The interdisciplinary team stood out of the 63 finalist teams and advance all the way to the final 20 with and excellent performance in the finals.

【"Lanes from the Heart" from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology team recorded temple events in its project "Let’s Go Mingling with People by the Temple Gate.”】

"Lanes from the Heart" came with activities in a community, listening to traditional stores and residents about their life philosophy and attitudes. Through the activities organized by the youth, the team came up with a creative design to accentuate the recognition and respect for the local culture. Without breaking in the local culture, the team maintained the original appearance of the premise in life, injected new elements of art, design and technology into the old community, and made an attempt to create a common experience in customers. The team hoped that in the practice of social problem-solving and proposing a social enterprise business model innovation, they could activate the community and awaken people’s respect for the local culture, consequently reaching their sustainable management purpose.

【"Lanes from the heart" from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology brought up an interactive services navigation platform for their Shinyi Street Project】

In the 2015 TiC100 Social Entrepreneurship Competition, a number of assessments led teachers and judges to become definitely interested in the performance of "Lane from the Heart" in this competition. They expressed a strong interest in the story of Shinyi Street in Tainan City. With the prize money they won, the team has access to public resources and support and would continue to grow and accumulate their experience in entrepreneurship, make achievements in social practice, and cultivate their social purposes of making more young people know the local culture and identity of their own value.
