Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has established the Department of Popular Music Industry and Elderly Services Bachelor Program, with 100% enrollment.
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology was approved by the Ministry of Education last year to establish the Department of Popular Music Industry and Elderly Services Bachelor Program. This year (2015) both have successful recruited students through the different types of admission and have successfully completed a 100% enrollment.

Department of Popular Music Industry, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, is the first department set up for popular music in the country. It has invested tens of million dollars in creating a professional teaching space, making purchase of the most advanced teaching equipment, and even inviting a number of professionals in the industry to teach in the department. Such generous investment has showed the determination and optimism on the part of STUST to run a sustainable management on the department.
Since the establishment of its preparatory office, the department has been well received by the students, who request information via telephone and Facebook fan page. The highest one-day visitor number had once climbed as high as 4,369.While the recruitment for the year was set to be 42 freshmen, the enrollment rate has attained 100%. Given such an overwhelming response, STUST has decided to increase enrollment to 50 students next academic year, so as to cultivate more talented young people for the pop music industry in Taiwan.

In curriculum planning, the Department of Popular Music Industry will organize its students into three groups—performance group, creative group, and audio-visual technology group—depending on each student’s ability, expertise and interest.
Students can choose to focus on certain specialties from creative work, stage performance, recording technology, stage design, lighting design, live sound control, performing brokers, and many other areas of specialty. Courses offered are practically oriented, emphasizing a seamless integration of school education and industrial demand. During the school years, the department will arrange internship for its students, sending them to Cultural and Creative Industrial Park in Tainan and a number of well-known companies in the industry.

In the face of our aging society, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, has hosted "Senior University" for five consecutive years and actively cultivated senior citizens. This year STUST has already been authorized by the Ministry of Education to hold Elderly Service Bachelor Program, with 40 freshmen enrolled in full measure, report to be 99% for enrollment. It recruits students from vocational technical and vocational system, focused on business management group, health and nursing group, and home economics group. There are several academic goals, including basic care services expertise, training professional personnel engaged in learning and leisure/elderly education services, with the purposes to assist such professionals coming in elderly services business and to help them develop potential for entrepreneurship.

In terms of course planning, Elderly Services Bachelor Program aims at creating in students three capacities of senior citizen services. They are four categories of courses, including "aged recreation," "elderly education," “innovation and entrepreneurship,” and “creativity and creative power." It integrates different lesson groups of professional teachers, combine itself with the resources from Chi Mei Medical Center, and further plan a complete professional program. It is also linked with interdisciplinary courses related to business and science of credits to nurture future talent in line with industry needs for the elderly. In terms of research, the program has a "Medical Assistive Technology Centre," "Biomedical Electronics Center," and "Biotechnology Product Trial Production of Functional Assessment Techniques and Product Research and Development Center.” At the same time, it maintains good relationship and cooperation with the industry, such as its cooperation with China Health Management Association, with which it works together to foster the practical application of potential students and to offer graduates opportunities of being immediately employed.
