Parents and teachers collaborated to enhance school quality: Southern Taiwan
University of Science and Technology organized a forum for parents and teachers

In order to promote parents’ understanding of the school, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology organized a special forum for nearly 300 of new freshman students. The forum was created for the hope that through a dialogue between schools and parents, STUST could strengthen contact and communication with the parents and effectively enhance the understanding of the status of the system development, thereby elevating parents’ affirmation of the school’s effort on building mutual interests and counseling students.

President Tai said that parental involvement helps to enhance school quality; thus he sincerely invited parents to develop educational vision and to create educational partners. Parents should regain the initiative, become involved in school education, and assume responsibility for education together with the school, so that more resources, with the active participation of parents, can be put into a lot of activities, and thus enhance the quality of our school , students, parents, and our society as well, to create a win-win situation.

The forum for parents and teachers was divided into two phases. The first phase of the forum was not only for administrative executives of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology to report, but also for the parents and teachers to have face- to- face communication. The parents were invited to have all kinds of questions concerning students’ lives, future career, and many other issues.

Furthermore, the second phase also invited parents to visit each department chairpersons and have talks, giving parents a more detailed insight into their children studies in each department and their development in the future. Parental involvement in school was careful and attentive, and the arrangements are very satisfactory as many later showed that they had a high willingness to participate in similar activities.
