The “Flying Love to the Philippines” volunteer group of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology consecutively won the ASUS international volunteer group awards
The “Flying Love to the Philippines” volunteer group of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology consecutively won the ASUS international volunteer group awards given at the Guandu headquarters of ASUS Enterprises. There were volunteer teams from eight colleges and universities, with more than a total of about 100 international volunteer workers, gathering at ASUS headquarter and reviewed by more than 6,000 employees of Asus. Each team made great effort to show the results of its service during the summer in a foreign country. Along with the the teams from Yuan Ze University and National Taipei University of Business, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology stood out from the competition, with its rich and diverse services that show the substance to help more eligible for accreditation. The international volunteer team’s achievements will be shown at ASUS headquarter to their staff in the restaurant.

Without any fear of Sudi Le typhoon, the 2015 Philippine International volunteer team flew from Kaohsiung International Airport to Manila on Aug. 9. Under the arrangement of Care Foundation of China in the Philippines, the team went to the United Provinces of the Philippines Pakistan Vaughan (Bauang) for a two-week computer and culture teaching task. Thanks to the good performance in the evaluation obtained preferably last year, this was the third time the team was sponsored by ASUS Foundation and the Secretariat of the Institute of Information. As ASUS Cultural and Educational Foundation provided 65 sets of regenerated computer, together with the 35 sets from STUST, the international volunteer team had a total of 100 sets this year. Sanfa Fan Guard Manufacturers Co., Ltd. offer free shipping to the Philippine so that those rural school children and teachers could have more digital learning opportunities.

The “Flying Love to the Philippines” volunteer group has had long-term support from the Office of Extra-Curricular Activities. Ever since 2009, they have been to the Philippines for six times, working hard to uphold the technology-based, cultural- supplemented teaching methods and trying to realize their ideal of bridge the digital gaps there. This year, they followed the conventional way to set up second-hand computers, donated a computer classroom, and provided vocational training; and a total of 72 were given computer software teaching for the local people who were unemployed during the stay, passing the Taiwanese culture to enhance mutual understanding. The had great teaching content, including computer hardware introduction, Office software use, Scratch, PowerDirector application, as well as the blue dye and scrolls that produced cultural communications.

This year there were eight students participating in the international volunteer group, respectively from different departments that focuses on motors, working capital, English, Japanese, hospitality and international business, led by Prof. Jin-Wei Chang from the Department of Mechanics and Miss Yi-Jian Chen from ASUS Europe Business Department. The 10 members worked together for 13 days on the trip, not only completing the entire task of teaching English, but also establishing great friendship with local practitioners and city officials. Mayor Diaz presided over the opening and closing ceremonies to present official certificates to the students. The mayor publicly thanked the volunteer group, which did the best publicity for STUST and made their great love to the Philippines.
