Students got involved in the implementation of public services: Southern
Taiwan University of Science and Technology and Public TV worked together
to launch the citizen journalism platform of PeoPo 30 Minutes campus depth report

The Department of Information and Communication of STUST participated in the citizen journalism platform of PeoPo 30 Minutes campus depth report organized by Public TV. The cooperation ceremony was launched on Oct 30 at the Taipei International Arts Village intercollegiate. This project would enable a total of 14 universities to work with local citizen reporters to launch a series of thematic depth reports. Among the universities, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology is the only university of science and technology. Students would be in cooperation with citizen reporters who have had a number of PEOPO Citizen Journalism Awards. Their works include the "Slow Flying Angel Employment Inspirational Story," which, through special reports on Lening Bakery in Chiayi, discussed the challenges that children of slow development have to face in their learning process and on the way they explore and acquire employment skills. The project will also integrate professional and local resources, show concerns for the minority issues, and help people understand more about the pulses of our society. It will be completed in December and shown in public television.

President Chien Tai said that close cooperation between colleges and businesses allows schools to play a more active role in training talent in journalism for the future. On the citizen journalism platform where Public TV PEOPO and STUST have worked together over the past eight years, the campus interview center has taken root in the campus, aroused concern about social issues in Tainan area, and showed a powerful vitality of the media. Long-term reports on community care have had an important influence. Yet, STUST will also continue to have influence on southern Taiwan with its campus interviews, not only to enable students to be more actively involved in learning to play a role in society and strengthen the learning effectiveness, but also to increase opportunities for students to practice and made their dreams and ideals real. At the same time, STUST will also invest more resources and assistance in the campus information center to facilitate a wider dissemination of the results and effects.

The "Slow Flying Angel Employment Inspirational Story," produced by the student team of The Department of information and Communication, leads its audience to understand the slow flying angels’ learning processes and employment problems. Tsun-Wen Su, a member of the team, said that the purpose of the film is to let everyone know that these slow flying angels can do one thing well and are always willing to learn. Even though it is very hard, they all do in a very happy way. As long as people are willing to provide them job openings, patience and love, they can live by their own strength and make progress along with the society. It is hoped that more enterprises can give them a hand, so these slow flying angels and other disabled people can have a stage in the workplace to show how good they are.
