"iTape logistics real-time monitoring and management system" was directed Prof. Chen-Shin Chuang of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, bolstered by Prof. Wan-Rang Chang and Prof. Da-Huei Lee of Electronic Engineering Department and Prof. Chun-Juei Tsai of Business Administration Department. Under their guidance, the team created a system that can assist in the logistics industry to reduce the rate of damage and loss happening to commodity goods in the delivery process; it can also instantly detect improper collision of goods and avoid packaging tape from being improperly torn off during the delivery process. The system mainly consists of three parts: iTape, automotive machine / ZigBee gateways, and online information platform. iTape carries a piezoelectric film sensor embedded with RF circuits, so it can instantly detect the pressure and side tension on the tape and send the message of abnormal pressure to the side to a freight car or the ZigBee gateways on the car through the ZigBee wireless transmission. The ZigBee gateway that receives the message of abnormal pressure side can send the information via 3G/ 4G network through the Internet to the online information platform. As team member Jie-Yi Chiu pointed out, during the race students can integrate their live the experiences into the theoretical aspects they learned at school. This also proved that the school has done a lot in innovation, research and teamwork training, thus showing an awesome combination of theory and practice in the concrete results of its development.

President Chien Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology pointed out that, thanks to the rise of e-commerce around the world in recent years, the world has seen vigorous development of the logistics industry. However, as the needs of e-commerce keeps increasingly expanding, market competition of the logistics industry has become increasingly fierce. Factors related to logistics service quality and operating costs are key to ensuring the integrity and timeliness of goods delivery process, thus reducing the damage and loss rate of goods and further enhancing its market competitiveness. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology understands the importance of industry-university cooperation for industrial development; therefore, in addition to actively cooperating with the various relevant manufacturers, it has been working on resources integration for the school through interdisciplinary cooperation.
