"Talent Training Highlight Project: The Era of Talent Micro Film Contest” organized by the Ministry of Education

Talent is the key to national competitiveness. To form a comprehensive model for talent training in college, the Ministry of Education is now promoting a series of activities for its "Talent Training Highlight Project," designed to find the hidden talent in Taiwan. One highlighted activity is "The Era of Talent Micro Film Contest.” The film—One Day as A Life--was directed by Prof. Shi-Lan Yang from the Department of Information and Communication, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won the Special Award and NT$ 10,000. The creative team indeed created endless possibilities of the influence of film and television.

The awarded film "One Day as A Life" anchors its focus on the life story of Prof. Yi-Tsun Lin of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. It presents as its subject the life story of Prof. Lin as one single day, giving a full account of his achievements in a life dedicated to engineering ethics, medical aids, and ancient mechanical innovation. The ancient art of ancient machinery, cutting-edge medical aids, and engineer the most important engineering ethics--with these three major themes, the film brings forth a series of details showing Prof. Lin’s enthusiasm and commitment to his teaching career. To be sure, this work has highlighted the Innovation of STUST. As team member Min-Yi Wang said, the whole film was done against limited financial support and manpower constraints. Thanks to the support of many plans and the guidance of their teachers, the whole film could be so successfully completed. As the student team was not quite familiar with the expertise of the faculty of Engineering, they made a lot of efforts in communication before filming and did a lot of cutting after it. Fortunately, the outcome made everybody happy. It is greatly hoped that the work can have more resonance and recognition from the audience.

President Chien Tsai of Southern Taiwan University of Science said that Taiwan's energy has been hidden in campus, just as multi-dimensional and perspective as shown by such a great film that reflects the face of social wealth and discusses the hidden problems and social issues for the young contemporary. Through its 6-minute long narration, the film shows a moving story for the noteworthy aspects of Taiwan. In addition, the president mentioned that, with the creation of a film, the power of the crowd can be completed, young students can be encouraged, and more ideas can be gathered to create more possibilities.
