Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology launched its Design Cube to
integrate product development, design, and manufacturing

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology University, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, launched its Design Cube on November 25 for the “Southwest Model Strategic Alliance" to strengthen teachers and students of its partner schools in terms of design, development, and production capacity, and to improve the design industry in the southern region for industrial upgrading.

As President Tai Chien said, Design Cube is mainly designed and organized by the Department of Innovative Product Design, location in the new school building for comprehensive design, creative thinking, teaching and design research, and development and production. The overall architectural design is given multifunctional features. The first floor is organized and arranged for the design and manufacturing, completed with product development proofing of equipment, including digital manufacturing output with a variety of laser processing center, all kinds of 3D printers, and other digital output equipment, which can correspond to the number of bits required by our era of product development and rapid proofing needs. On the second floor, there is an open design studio with different kinds of functional design furniture. This open space can meet the need of 30 to 200 people, and it has hosted several design seminars, workshop and work camp. The third floor is a space for creative thinking and teaching, and there are three creative thinking rooms. Through creative space design, independently adjustable configuration, and comprehensive use of lighting and furniture features, teaching and industry can help stimulate creative thinking and design rendering. The 4th floor offers specialized laboratories for six major themes for design—interface design, product aesthetics, dynamic visual, digital production, cultural goods, and paper brand. Director of each design space has rich laboratory qualifications and theoretical knowledge in different industries. They are well capable of deal with product design professional needs.

In addition to the construction of specialized hardware and space, STUST invited designers working in the product design and design-related industries of southern Taiwan to set up " Exchange Platform for Product Design Teacher in Southern Taiwan" and "Exchange Platform for Product Design Industry in Southern Taiwan." The two exchange platforms gives full play to University Interscholastic League of Technology Resource Sharing with academia prosperity concept, use of creative thinking, professional equipment, and design talent. The also regularly organize related exchange activities and cooperate with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Tainan City Government, the Economic Development Board, and many other relevant units, jointly promoting the exchange of research and design to enhance the design integration in southern Taiwan.
