Strengthening interaction between students and teachers; promoting international academic exchange between Taiwan and Macao: Manager of the International Department of the University of Western Sydney, Australia, visited Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology
To strengthening interaction between students and teachers and to promote international academic exchange between Taiwan and Macao, Mr. Keven Ho, Manager of the International Department of the University of Western Sydney, Australia, visited Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology on November 20. Ever since the two universities became sisters in AD 2013, South Taiwan University of Science and Technology has recommended and sent its best students every semester as exchange students to University of Western Sydney for professional training courses. Exchange students are exempt from tuitions and, in winters and summers, given chances to work as trainees to fully accumulate practical experiences. It has been very impressive that they seize every opportunity to learn the experiences and make efforts to integrate into the spirit of the local population. In the future, there will be more students looking forward to the experiences of senior students to encourage them make their dream come true, studying abroad to West Sydney University or other overseas sister schools to enhance the international perspective and international competitiveness.

As Mr. Ho came to STUST for the right time, the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs arranged a seminar for students interested in applying for studying in Australia to participate in this study tour. Mr. Ho described in detail all the school curriculum and professional academic programs that can help strengthen students’ language proficiency, admissions, incentives, accommodation information and necessities for life, etc. While he answered all the questions from students, the students became deeply interested in the school campus and professional courses.

As Mr. Ho said, there are currently three sister schools in Taiwan, namely, the Central University of North Taiwan, Yuan Ze University, and Southern Taiwan Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. University of Western Sydney Cooperation is based on the concept that international sister schools should be permanent, comprehensive in style, and communicable in depth. This idea coincides the philosophy of STUST, which always emphasizes its relationship with existing sister schools. This summer the two universities will continue its training programs for English instructors, student exchanges, courses for double master degree, and a lot of cooperation in the field of English teaching and business management, as well as issues related to the future development and cooperation under the Ministry of Education and other extended stay plans to be fully discussed. Consensus has been reached between the two schools for their continued development of pluralism and mutual cooperation programs as they expressed optimism, affirmation, and willingness to keep in close contact and actively promote the cooperation and exchange transactions.
