The first Panasonic Green Living Design Competition saw great outcome by Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology as its teams won the double championships.
To encourage young people to create groundbreaking ideas by coming through the wisdom of life portrayal and to make contribution to the society in the future, Panasonic Corporation held the first Panasonic First Green Living Design Competition for college students nationwide by integrating the all the capacities of industry, government, and academic sphere. The final review and award ceremony were held on the 4th of December in Tainan Cultural and Creative Industrial Park. As a result, "Heroes Team" and "High Efficiency of Luminous Small Thin Lamp Team" from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the champion in Creative Group and the championship in Commodity Group, respectively. STUST became the biggest winner in this competition.

October 2011 Panasonic Group in Taiwan issued a "Declaration of Environment Protection in Taiwan," setting its 2015 target of developing a specific action on products, production and staff activities. Ever since June 16, 2014, when Panasonic Group signed a MOU to cooperate with Tainan City Government, Panasonic Group has been actively promoting its overall “CO2 ± 0 life proposal,” with particular emphasis on the development of intelligent energy-saving technology, promoting ease, and comfortable family life solutions. Moreover, Panasonic Taiwan signed a Letter of Intent on Green Technology with Taiwan-Japan Industrial Cooperation and Promotion Office (TJPO) in November 13, 2014. The two companies started to work together in five major spheres—home appliances, housing, transportation, B2B solutions, and electronic components—with focus on areas of green industry, intelligence, and others orientated toward creating a low-carbon city.

This year, keeping its vow to make Tainan City a model intelligent, non-carbon city, Panasonic Group integrated the knowledge about the home appliances and overall planning expertise to construct a healthy living environment for the public to participate in the "low-carbon model community." To make Tainan a world-class demonstration of low-carbon cities, Panasonic worked together with the municipal government, Cultural and Creative Industrial Park in Tainan, and Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology in organizing the 2015 Panasonic Green Living Design Competition.

Yuan Chuan Lin, general manager of Panasonic Industrial Co. in Taiwan, said that Green Living Design Competition is for the first time an integration of Tainan City Government, academic institutions, and industrial corporations. It is hoped that college students of different areas can bring their creativity into life through their design planning, making contribution to the sustainable development of Tainan city and the Earth. It is also hoped that this experience can be expanded into the future, sowing the seeds of "Green Living" and continuously passing them down to the coming generations.

President Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said the school recently was awarded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs the 2015 Award of Excellence for its performance on energy savings. STUST is also the only university to have been awarded this highest honor. Carbon reduction is one of the priority of school education, which should stem from students’ care in everyday life for the environment and reinforcement of environmental awareness in saving energy and protecting the planet. It was a correct choice for Panasonic to cooperated with STUST in organizing Green Living Design Competition. He said that there is not the best but a better one: the fact STUST’s teams were given the accreditation of two champions would only lead to the hope that next year STUST can have more and better teams together to participate in such a meaningful competition by Panasonic, together bring out a creative response to environmental protection.

【High Efficiency Luminous Small Thin Lamp Team from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the first prize in Commodity Group】
The competitors were divided into "Green Living Creative Group" and "Green Living Commodity Groups." Since the competition started in mid-August, more than 300 college students of a total of 81 teams from 20 different colleges and universities have attended it. The project proposal of each team went through the committee composed of 8 experts from different industries, academic institutions, and the government. 10 teams for Green Living Creative Group and 12 teams Green Living Commodity Groups entered the final to compete for prize money given to the first 3 winning teams—NT$50,000, NT$30,000, and NT$20,000. For these 6 teams and proposals with potential for business opportunities, Taiwan Panasonic would arrange ad hoc meetings for the commercialization of their ideas.
