Professor Wen-Jun Chang of Electronic Engineering Department, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, is now implementing the long term perspective plan, working together with National University of Tainan, The Affiliated Hearing Impaired School of National University of Tainan (hereinafter referred to as AHISNU), Tainan City Kunshan High School, and other partner schools to develop applied energy technology-related teaching resources for deaf students. About 40 teachers and faculties from the Hong Kong Institute of Education, Hong Kong Institute of Education for Special Learning Needs, and Inclusive Education Center visited AHISNU. Their main purpose was to visit the institutions for special education in Taiwan and understand the implementation of the local special education services, including their educational philosophy, promotion of integrated education, family support, and career planning for the disables, etc.

Teachers and faculties from Hong Kong Institute of Education were allowed to enter classrooms to actually watch how classes were working, acquiring the actual concept of the lesson and practically understanding the operation of the teaching field. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology also invited Senior Manager Wei-Shin Li from the Office of Corporate Responsibility and Employee Relations of Innolux Corp. to share the company’s employment of disabled persons and his experience in career counseling. According to AHISNU, returning to the mainstream of education is for hearing impaired students the major planning and direction. These students begin school when they are two years old to accept a nine-year general education curriculum of vocational training for the future. The main target is to help them prepare well at any stage for a return to the integrated education.

After the meeting, Hong Kong Institute of Education and AHISNU exchanged presents. Hong Kong Institute of Education invited the long-term perspective plan design team to visit Hong Kong next year for a short-term study programs. During the tea time, they exchanged their experience about learning and teaching related to students who have special learning needs before their international educational exchange saw a happy ending.
