The academia and industrials join hands in personnel training for new players to
become great players: Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology
participated in the 2016 Southern Taiwan Vocational Expo – Starting the Dream for the Vocational Oriented.

To enable students and parents to understand the teaching objectives and curriculum specialties of technical and vocational education, National Kaohsiung University of Applied Science and Technology held the 2016 Southern Taiwan Vocational Expo, which was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education Division and the Department of Education of Kaohsiung City Government, with assistance from all universities of Science and Technology in South Taiwan. It was held on April 10, in Kaohsiung Arena Outdoor Plaza. Vocational Education Director Hsiang-Ping Ma of the Ministry of Education pointed out that one of the important characteristics of technical and vocational education is closely tied to university-industry practices, cooperation between teachers and curriculum, and its full integration with industrial experience. President Chien Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology noted that in this "Productivity 4.0" era, it is urgent to strengthen industry standards, enhance integration of research and development, and create a win-win situation for academia-industrial cooperation. Thanks to the participating vocational colleges and industries, we believe that through organizing the 2016 Southern District Vocational Fair, participants can have opportunities to observe the characteristics of resource sharing and the efficiency and target of cross-border cooperation.

In addition to the 27 vocationally oriented colleges and universities in the south of Yunlin, the organizer also invited 18 vocational high schools and industries in Kaohsiung area to the festival. The venue had more than 80 booths to show the contents of vocational education and the results of industry-university technology transfer. People can clearly learn about industry, agriculture, marine fisheries, commerce, family, art, medical and nursing classes and other groups related to the seven technical and vocational spheres. With the integration of dynamic and static publicity campaign, the festival showed specialized areas in technical and vocational education, the teaching and practical contents for implementation, and its adaptive features, so as to provide the public access to multiple studies, understand their future paths, and thereby choose the school in line with their abilities and interests.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology actively participated in the 2016 Southern Taiwan Vocational Education Expo, dispatching two business groups— one with designing experience in customized 3D printing and the other in carbon pipe and clean water glue. It also sent the school cheerleaders there for performances, producing great atmosphere for the fair and won warm applause from the visiting public.

Experiencing activities were arranged in the commercial groups so that people had the opportunity to personally experience the school-based innovative product design directed by Instructor Da-Chi Liu: design experience customized 3D printing exclusive pen. The visitors experienced design and learned a lot about how-to-do; through the free 3D software, they could design an exclusive pen in a unique shape. The active participation of the people visiting the show fully showed the feature of technical and vocational education—learning by doing.

Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering Super nova 21th Century Team from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, directed by Prof. Chang-Ning Huang, offered the public with on-site experience making clean water via carbon pipes and plastic materials─carbon nanotubes and carbon spheres. Through common glue, homemade keyboard and screen super clean water glue from everyday life, the visitors were given great on-site experience. Exhibition activities are also designed to give away prizes. Visits are lively enthusiastic about the on-site experiencing activities, which were fresh and interesting to them, impressing them with the effectiveness of technical and vocational education.

Through active exchanges in the fair, interactive experience, people and students obtained a wealth of information in the development of technical and vocational education. With the support from all the vocational colleges and universities and people’s enthusiastic participation, the 2016 Southern Taiwan Vocational Expo was quite successful.
