Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won 11 prizes and the "Best School Award"
again in the 2016 Visual Performance Grand Prix Competition organized by the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology to participated in the country's biggest digital design student competition--the 2016 Visual Performance Grand Prix Competition--organized by the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won two gold, two silvers, and two bronzes, one preferable prize, four Corporate Sponsor awards. STUST was so proud to have become the biggest winner again with the "Best School Award", along with all the appreciations and affirmations from all sectors.

【Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won 11 prizes and the "Best School Award" again in the 2016 Visual Performance Grand Prix Competition】

This Grand Prix competition encompassed several sectors, such as plane, animation, PC game, action game, interdisciplinary, mobile device software applications, and mobile applications. From 70 colleges and universities in Taiwan, approximately 1,089 entries competed for prize money. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology had great performances in the competition. The team of the Department of Multimedia and Computer Entertainment, directed by Chairman Hwa-Chen Chang, created a great game called "Iron-Shield Fighting .VR" with virtual reality device that allows players to enjoy first-person experience as shooters and use it for hot VR head-mounted device with somatosensory seat and rocker. The work showed absolutely immersive combat screen; players can be more immersed in the game world. The game won from IGS a special award—a gold one. It also won the silver medal in Interdisciplinary Category, and an Excellent Award as a PC Game creative team. The team, with their preferable three awards, was most eye-catching one in the contest. Another team of the department, guided by Prof. Chen-Shun Chen, won the gold medal of Action Game Category with their game "Macrophages." Their game presented beautiful pictures, great atmosphere, and fun gameplay, allowing the player to play games on mobile devices while enjoying the beautiful visual fun, supported by innovative sound technology.

In addition, the team of the Department of Visual Communication and Design, directed by Prof. Shei-Yun Mou, created a 3D animation called “The Life of O-Bay,” which worked on the story of the messengers of death–Black and White Angels. In a playful way, they expressed, through this new animation, the feeling of unrest for those who first work in society and the impact from the things unexpectedly happening in life. They showed exquisite details in 3D, captured the praise of the judges, and won CGCG animation Special Award, the silver medal in animation category, and an Excellent Award for Art Performance.

President Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Technology said the students’ outstanding performance was highly appreciated. STUST has abundant digital design talent and outstanding creative ability, as well as the competence to promote matchmaking industry and academic talent, consequently narrowing the gap between the industrial north and south Taiwan. Since the establishment of the School of Digital Design at STUST the school has been participating in domestic competitions and winning again and again, along with a myriad of patent technology transfers and cases of industry cooperation that shows substantial growth year after year. With all these brilliant results, STUST has won applause from all walks of life. The fact that STUST won a lot of prizes in the 2016 Grand Prix Competition showed that students of the School of Digital Design are great in both their teamwork and their ability to implement.
