The 2016 Happiness Dessert Selection Rematch, sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, was held at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, organized by the Department of Hospitality Management. A few days ago, when the school handled the preliminaries Southern extremely enthusiastic participants, a total of 31 manufacturers and students from the excellent hospitality industry of Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, came to participate in the contest. After preliminary screening, 21 student groups were allowed to join the rematch. Competition from products visible in each group played a highly creative Taiwan Roselle, sesame seeds, longan, kumquat, dried fruits and rice, and other characteristics of agricultural products were integrated into the Taiwanese Souvenir. The winner would attend the Taipei finals and participate in Taiwan Culinary Exhibition in August this year. This contest allows bakers and students to make innovation with their creativity in the commercialization and marketing approach to their souvenirs.

Prof. Chiu-Yi Huang, Chairperson of the Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science, noted that the main purpose of this event was to invite the selection throughout food manufacturers in southern Taiwan and students can develop and produce a profound reflection of the land through contests and reflect the environment for the humanities, food qualities, and the "happy desserts" souvenirs. The competition was divided into occupational groups and student groups. Contestants in the preliminary round were required to make 3 souvenir snack products, 2 designated products, and 1 creative product to specify the use of fillings grapes, mangoes, citrus, banana, sweet potato or taro of six ingredients, optionally one, or to specify the use of cookies with substrates of dessert.

The contest invited judges with great reputation in the profession, including the president of the World Skills Competition for Desserts Production, an international referee with the National Skills Competition for Desserts Production, Prof. Chiu-Yi Huang, Chairperson of the Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science, Direct Shao of Food Safety and Inspection Center, Chef Fen from Tainan Far East La Snack Room, Chef Zhuang from Han Hsien International Hotel Kaohsiung Pastry, and Chef Da-Tian Lin from Yue hotel Pastry.

President Tai pointed out that STUST is a quite forward-looking and competitive school. The Department of Hospitality Management offers a variety of personnel for restaurants and hotels, with its excellent facilities and professional teachers, who offer counseling to students participating in the contest in recent years, including the Chinese food, Western food, cocktails, baking and other food technology competition at home and abroad, to obtain a total of more than one hundred awards. STUST also has a Goldbeck bakery operated by the teachers and students to cultivate a lot of excellent baking students.
