Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology and Yongkang Junior High School jointly held the Multicultural Summer Camp to implement Schweitzer’s idea of education services.
Teacher Education Center of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held the Multicultural Summer Camp in Yongkang Junior High School from July 4 to July 22 as part pf its implementation of the "2016 Program of the Ministry of Education to Promote Schweitzer’s Idea of Education Services for Teacher and Students in College.”
15 teachers and students of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology formed a service team out of their enthusiasm. There were a total of 26 Yongkang Junior School students participating in the program. With the expertise they had acquired in college, the college students brought the educational philosophy into practice throughout their interaction with all the participants. Not only did all the participants have an eventful summer, the college students but also brought themselves new inspirations and partners. The program was highly significant. The camp arranged diverse curriculum, including “Brains to Move,” “Crazy Tsuburi,” group and recreational activities, computer courses, gourmet feasts, creative hand-made classes, natural experiments, human body study, Chinese and English Teaching, etc. It was desirable to bring those students in Yongkang Junior High School a fruitful life in summer.

The opening was jointly hosted by Director Chi-Shiong Hwang of the Center for Teacher Education, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and Principal Wen-Chi Tong of Yongkang Junior High School. The team advisor Prof. Yu- Chiang Lee said that their purpose was to enhance students’ interest in learning provide c students with counseling in developing their physical and mental integrity by cordial and friendly services and their greatly diversified teaching content. This is their way to promote Schweitzer’s selflessness in educational service.

The program included Rummikub bricks card, so that students could learn the digital color in multiple permutations and develop their decision-making ability in the game. The team also taught them application software about word processing and graphic modification, helping them upgrade the skills of students in computer applications and trying to teach students computer-related knowledge. Natural experiment courses were also added by interesting games, so as to encourage them develop the ability to do their scientific exploration. Courses were also given to explore the mystery of human body through this unique opportunity. Knowledge is further explained by the model of human mystery to make students understand more about their body composition. In addition, through more hand-made creative tasks, the program gave students DIY training, hoping to develop their painting and color matching ability and to stimulate their creativity and desire to create.

The service team also invited to Prof. Jia-Chi Wang from Center for Teacher Education of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology to be the lecture of the class "I Am A Scientist" to teach students scientific thinking and stimulate their scientific creativity. It was believed that such a rich curriculum could bring them the 26 students an enjoyable summer, with more interesting learning and multifaceted values.
