All-in-on intelligent upgrade: opportunities for intelligent IoT are flourishing in the 2016 IoT SME Incubation Development Forum at Southern Taiwan University of
Science and Technology.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology and a number of listed companies participated in the 2016 IoT SME Incubation Development Forum on October 2, organized by STUST Incubation Center and directed by Small and Medium Enterprise Administration. They shared ideas for the development of intelligent factories, intelligent medical system, and the global development of IoT, in an attempt to provide permeable intelligent network and creating a new wave of opportunities for corporate restructuring and development. Teachers and students of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology showed results of their participation in competitions related to intelligent networking system. The Incubation Center, listed companies, and a cluster of corporations—including IBASE Technology, ICP DAS, SYSTEX NEXCOM—showed and exchanged the results of their recent research and developments.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has long cumulated in it the ICT, mechanical intelligence, networking, big data, cloud computing and other technologies. Under the guidance of the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, STUST called for more than a dozen of small-and-midcap suppliers and producers to join in the business integration of Nantai Intelligent networking Industry Cluster bred by its Incubation Center. In addition to organizing teachers with intelligent networking expertise, the cluster also includes such listed company as IBASE Technology Co., Ltd., ICP DAS, SYSTEX, and many satellite partners. Through this mechanism and its internal cooperation with STUST Incubation Center, they can assist each other in R & D, hold cooperation among the corporate network partners together, and thereby develop more cooperation opportunities.

As Deputy Executive You-Nan Chen of IBASE Technology pointed out, "the spirit of the IoT is to link devices which are not connected yet, bring into full force the potential value of information, turn all the data into charts, and transform insights into business opportunities." The theme of the forum—From intelligent factory, intelligent medical system, to global development of IoT—is to offer upgraded services to the manufacturing sector, medical biotechnology, service sector, agriculture and other manufacturers and vendors in southern Taiwan, create a new wave of opportunities for corporate restructuring and development, and increase the added value of industry in southern Taiwan traditional industries. All these will be facilitated by STUST Incubation Center through the experience and business network in the industry shared by large-scale enterprises, stationed vendors to, as well as teachers at STUST who are specialized in IOT technologies and intelligent networking.

Section Chief Shu-Mei Chang of Small and Medium Enterprise Administration indicated that the foundry worked as the hardware foundation in the past, laying a solid foundation for Taiwan's industry; however, in response to the impact of international competition and rapid technological development, traditional industries in the southern region must go beyond transitions and get upgraded. The most direct way is to introduce the ICT technology, especially in the era of IoT today, where promoting the development of digital manufacturing, network integration, and real intelligent manufacturing industry is already a trend.

Deputy Manager Shu-Fa Zheng of ICPDAS showed great appreciation for Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology in the professional development of clear positioning, its outstanding performance in the development program of the Ministry of Science, and its efforts in nurturing of talents. The Institute of Technology at STUST is also well-known in the industry. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has been practice-oriented in its development philosophy, which coincides exactly with ICPDAS. It is hoped that through industry-university cooperation, the establishment of "Indusoft Web Studio SCADA software" Promotion Center can be established at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, offering programs for practical workplace training and helping students develop the ability to effectively make use of what they have learned.

The event brought together a lot of guests from industries, government units, and academic institutions, including President Chien Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Deputy Director Chen-Gang Su of Science and Technology Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration, Section Chief Shu-Mei Chang of Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, and many directors and chiefs from a number of universities, along with more opportunities for new entrepreneurs, college students, and manufacturers in industry in southern Taiwan.
