Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held its 2016 Chinese Language and Taiwanese Culture Camp.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held its 2016 Chinese Language and Taiwanese Culture Camp, with 43 participants this year from four countries, including Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand. They came from 11 different sister schools, led by three teachers. Director Yong-Peng Wang of International and Cross-strait Affairs Office gave them certificates in the closing ceremony on behalf of the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology and brought them a blessing with his highest regard. Over the past two weeks in the camp, these students not only learned Chinese Language from the cultural programs and in-school visits, together with great experience with the customs of the people of Taiwan, but also acquired a better understanding of the beautiful island of Taiwan and the passions of its people through their interaction with the volunteers of Southern Taiwan University of Science.

Students from abroad could come to understand Taiwan's diverse cultures through pottery, puppetry, Hakka art, Taiwanese cuisine，and other cultural programs, most especially arranged for the participants handmade soup dumplings, steamed dumplings and other Chinese food, delicious taste buds expand feast, is a very rare experience, very satisfied with the arrangements for the course. In addition, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology also orchestrated Chiayi, Tainan and Taichung travel itinerary and outdoor teaching; teaching to lead the students to enjoy outdoor Tainan Tainan Anping Old Street monuments and scenery. Chiayi outdoor teaching arrangements to visit the farm Jia Yimin Xiong kumquat, strong nostalgic experience of Taiwan farm early life, so that students make kumquat sauce, in addition also to the Italian cypress village life, the first visit to Taiwan and Taiwan's largest forestry village Japanese official homes and buildings Kano movie shooting scene, understand Taiwan's forestry history. Taichung trip to Taiwan led the students to go to one of the eight scenic Sun Moon Lake and Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, visiting the various ethnic groups in Taiwan aboriginal people and understanding Taiwan multiculturalism.

In the achievement performance, participants showed what they had learned in just two weeks in Taiwan. They sang and spoken Chinese to show their rapid progress, winning great applause from the audience. Director Yong-Peng Wang of International and Cross-Strait Affairs Office showed great expectation for the opportunity that they could come once again to visit Taiwan, either to attain a master program or a doctoral study. He also hoped that participants can promote Taiwanese culture and spread it to the rest of the world so as to make more people know the beautiful island of Formosa–Taiwan.

Through this Chinese Taiwan cultural experience and activities, the participants showed great interest not only in learning Chinese but also in Taiwan's multicultures and history. For their partners at STUST, they enjoyed the exchange with foreign students and learned to understand other cultures, enhancing their foreign language skills as well as the international relation of Taiwan with other countries in the world.
