All for energy saving and carbon reduction and traffic safety: Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held an operation ceremony for the entry of No.21 bus into the campus.
In order to reduce student traffic accidents, expand the promotion of energy-saving carbon education life, and actively respond to the latest policy of the Ministry of Communications and Highway Administration for allowing city buses into the campus, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held an official ceremony for city buses to enter the campus. Guests were invited, including Minister Chang-Yuan Chang of Tainan Municipal Transportation Bureau, President Chien Tai, and Tainan City Councilor Yi-Jin Lin, to witness the ceremony. STUST became the first university in Tainan City to allow city buses into the campus. The bus provides students with the functions of education and learning, arts and cultural activities, youth entrepreneurship, and industry-university cooperation. At the same time, citizens can also take the city bus to experience recreational activities that are related to STUST. Children and senior citizens can also take the bus to meet their diverse needs in life. The bus can be taken as a multi-functional "art and recreational bus."

There are about 19,000 students at STUST, and those who have to ride a motorcycle to school are approximately 10,000. They have to study and work part time, so motorcycles are frequency used. To improve students’ safety, STUST allows city buses to come into the campus as a positive response to the policy of the Ministry of Communications. President Chien Tai of Taiwan University of Science and Technology, who took the position in the year of 1996, has attached great importance to student traffic safety maintenance. STUST was awarded by the Ministry of Education was greatly affirmed by the Ministry of Education in 2010 for its practice of traffic safety. At the same time, the school has spared no effort in promoting "energy saving and carbon reduction. "In 1999 and 2004, STUST was awarded "Energy Saving Excellence Award" by the Energy Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The bus-in-campus activity is a positive implementation of energy-saving in daily life.

President Tai said that the No. 21 bus has been put into operation over the past ten months, with the assistance of the Municipal Bureau of Transportation and the Honorable city counselor Yi-Jin Lin. They have worked to help STUST form the bus route, stations, security and others in completing the planning. From August 15, 2016 to September 1, 2016, the No. 21 bus had a test drive during the two-month period, Although it was during the summer vacation, there was still a considerable number of teachers and students taking it, showing the need for the bus into the campus.

Minister Chang-Yuan Chang of Tainan Municipal Transportation Bureau said that with the No. 21 city bus into the campus of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, the new building of STUST can have a better integration of all the functions for students’ campus life. He hoped the bus can provide students with more convenience in life. In addition, when students take the bus to the train station and nearby stores, they are not only safe but also able to contribute to energy saving and carbon reduction. He also hoped the citizens and students can positively respond to the policy of making Tainan City a low-carbon city by taking the bus.

Children of the affiliated Kindergarten of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology expressed that this was their first bus ride; it felt fun, so they would also take the bus to school in the future.

In addition, Tainan Municipal Government Human Resource Development Center has been cooperating with STUST for many years. In order to provide civil servants with the opportunity to study, the trainees have to drive or ride to STUST. Now the bus service can make the traffic more convenient; in addition to the university students, the bus allows the trainees and many other elderly citizens to have easier access to STUST, which will encourage more active participation in the courses and programs of STUST designed for me and which will certainly make their lives even more colorful.
