2016 International Symposium on Nano Science and Technology was held at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology: STUST fully demonstrated the results of its international exchange and showed itself developing into an international university of science and technology
The 2016 International Symposium on Nano Science and Technology was held at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology on Oct. 6 and Oct. 7. It was co-sponsored and guided by the Ministry of Education, Tainan Municipal Government, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Information Engineering, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering, the Department of Biotechnology, Department of Optoelectronic Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Deputy Mayor of Tainan City, Tsuo-Chun Yan attended the opening ceremony of the symposium. This year, a total of five outstanding scholars from famous universities worldwide participated in the conference.
Professor Shu-Bin Wang from Georgia Tech University was invited to give a lecture on "Future of Manufacturing" and Professor Ladislav Kavan from the academician of the Czech Academy of Sciences was also invited to share his achievement on "Application of Titanium-based Nano-materials to Electrochemical Cells," which describes how Nano-materials are used in today's lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells, solar cells and many other electrochemical cells. The 2016 International Symposium on Nano Science and Technology at South Taiwan University of Science and Technology not only fully demonstrated the outstanding achievements of internationalization, teaching and research or learning for teachers and students to inject fresh knowledge source, but also enhanced the international competitiveness and expand the international perspective.

In June 2011, US President Obama announced his Advanced Manufacturing Partner (AMP) plan, strongly expressing his determination to revitalize the US global competitiveness of the manufacturing sector. The conference invited Prof. Shu-Bin Wang from Georgia Tech University to talk about the future of manufacturing. Professor Wang was the Production Director of Georgia Institute of Technology. He represented the university and participated in meetings and discussions held in the US White House, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Energy. He also co-chaired the first national AMP expansion meeting. In his lecture, he presented an innovative network of AMP manufacturing projects and manufacturing in the United States and used 3D printing technology as an example of the application of nanotube composites to biomedical and stem cell related applications. The speech was very exciting, with the participants enthusiastically asking questions. In addition, Prof. Ladislav Kavan from Academician of the Czech Academy of Sciences was invited to share his findings on the application of titanium-based Nano-materials in electrochemical cells.

The conference also invited 20 scholars from Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand and other countries to give speeches. Topics and issues for discussions in the symposium showed a great spectrum, including top-tier manufacturing technology of Nano-devices, the interface of science and phenomenon of Nano-technology, electrostatic spinning process for preparing Nano-fiber and its application, preparation and application of functional ceramic green metal/ceramic composite material, preparation and application of Biomaterials, and application of micro-electromechanical elements to biological detectors.
Deputy Mayor Tsuo-Chun Yan of Tainan City said that this year is the fourteenth year Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held this large-scale international conference. He hoped that Tainan City, along with global industry trends and the wisdom of technology, can upgrade the industry with better technology and innovation diffusion. It is hoped that STUST would continue to provide teachers and students with abundant resources, persist with the spirit of scientific and technological research, expand the scale of international seminars, and eventually become an international indicator forum for mutual learning and observation among academics.

President Tai said that in recent years STUST has been working on to establishing sister school relationship with universities in Southeast Asia and other emerging countries. STUST has make great efforts to enhance academic research and industry-university cooperation, with the most sophisticated equipment purchased abroad on nanotechnology, advanced materials, and biotechnology fields. It has provided services to the industry, especially the Nano Research Center, Optoelectronic Semiconductor Center, and Biotech Product Research and Development Center. With the 2016 International Nanotechnology Symposium, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has fully demonstrated its outstanding achievement and a great move towards the goal of becoming an international university for science and technology.
In recent years, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology actively invited well-known scholars from different universities to come for international exchange. A lot of the international scholars invited to the symposium have had cooperation and exchange with STUST a remarkable extent. Teachers have a considerable amount of international exchanges and cooperation with teachers of other universities. Professor Torii for Kumamoto University, Japan, also participated in the conference. After the conference, he set up short-term teaching courses with the teachers and students of Mechanic Engineering Department. In addition, in recent years STUST began to build sisterhood relations with universities in emerging countries, such as Southeast Asia. Many local teachers have been to STUST to study. This year, sister schools, such as those in Thailand and Indonesia, also sent experienced and young professors to attend the conference.
