The symposium was divided into two major sessions. The first was for the future development trend of Taiwan locomotive and its components industry technology. The speaker was Prof. Chiu-Feng Lin from the Metal Industry Research Center, who is also a professor at the Department of Vehicle Engineering of National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, Dean of the School of Engineering, and a technical adviser in the Ministry of Economic Affairs for the development of domestic and foreign vehicle industry. The second is for the steam locomotive in Taiwan, with Manager Yu-Shian Shi of the IEK of Industrial Technology Research Institute as the speaker. whose major work is to study how to strengthen the trends of the industry and provide professional information and consultancy services for clients, creating value for customers and improving performance. Othe other hand, her is also committed to driving the development of knowledge-based services in Taiwan. Over the past years, she has been involved in the automobile and motorcycle industry technology, market assessment, and many other related programs. The participants felt that it was a worthwhile trip. In addition, this symposium covered 10 aspects, including body engineering, system safety, advanced power, advanced materials, advanced electronics, chassis system and exhaust emission control. There were 7 classrooms for 13 session and seven companies outside the venue to display products.

Vice President Hong-De Chang said that with the popularity of globalization and the rise of emerging industrial countries in recent years, Taiwan's industry is facing more intense international competitions. The industrial structure must be transformed again from the previous foundry production to high value-added industrial development. At present, the world in auto industry has invested a lot of money and manpower, but personnel training is the last key to success among all the key factors. Southern University of Science and Technology started with the engineering college and has had rich experience in related technical and vocational education. It has abundant resources and advanced equipment for humanities, business, management, engineering, etc. The vehicle group of solar cars has won in Australia the fifth in the world. In Student Formula One Racing in Japan, STUST was the second for its unique design award; it also won the first prize in the marketing report competition for its the best performance. In domestic competitions over the recent years, regardless of the fuel-efficient cars, oil trams or all-electric car project race, or environmental protection, STUST has acquired very good results every year. It even won a Triple Crown in terms of excellent school performance. After graduation, almost all the students can find a job and can be greatly favored by their employers in the industry. In the survey by Cheers Magazine from 2008 to 2016 years, STUST has been elected for eight consecutive years by Cheers Magazine as the favorite private university for enterprises. STUST has worked hard to encourage the automotive industry-related industries and has the vision to invest in this area for enhanced level of the automobile and motorcycle industry.
