Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology participated in the 2016 NOSH
Competition and won the championship of program development

The Department of Electrical Engineering of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology recently participated in the 2016 NOSH Competition, jointly sponsored by National Sun Yat-sen University, Kaohsiung Social Enterprise Development Association, and Kaohsiung City Association for the Development of Self-Made Production. Participants in this competition came from various colleges and institutions. The Department of Electrical Engineering of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology had dazzling performance and thus won the championship of program development.

The winning title was called "Grandparents’ Open House," developed by Prof. Yi-You Hou from the Department of Electronic Engineering and the research team of Intelligent Control Engineering Laboratory (ICEL), as the fruit of the teachers and students in the cooperation and creative work. In the competition, the students of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Southern University of Science and Technology participated in a program development competition, which lasted more than 30 hours at the National Sun Yat-Sen University for two days and nights. The theme of this competition was to solve the medical problems related to the life of the elderly. South Taiwan Maker Wisdom Expo let the audience also participated in the process by virtue of voting for the championship.

The "Grandparents’ Open House" project, designed in the course of the competition, is designed in line with the concept of "young and old living together” to differentiate itself from the existing housing estates in the market. The program will be able to open their living spaces at low prices. Vacant home space are rented to young people, so that young people and elder people can have more exchanges and interaction, while the traditional culture can be passed down to new generations. The project aims to broaden the horizons of the realities as well as the hardware and software of the web pages. By combining different kinds of web pages, it can attract more young people and make the issue more widely distributed.

The win this time can encourage teachers and students to work hard on creation and innovation results. Participating in national invention contests, in addition to encouraging teachers and students to commit themselves to creation, can enhance the capacity of research and development; it also results in investment in interdisciplinary exchange and cooperation in terms of resources and achievements. By expanding the benefits of creative exchange, STUST can also establish great relations with other research units or industries.
