2016 SOLIDWORKS Design Contest: Design R & D talent pooled together and Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won 15 prizes
2016 SOLIDWORKS Design Contest was held on the 15th at the award ceremony held at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. The competition, under the careful planning of the university, has been growing in its scale. Starting in 2015, under the sponsorship of Solid International Co., Ltd.—software giant in the world in China, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has held the 3D graphics SolidWorks design contest for years and discovered digging design talent in a fruitful way. This year, the contest expanded its scale to explore the design of R & D community for future stars. The award ceremony yesterday gathered from all over the country the winning elites, sharing and exchanging each other's design philosophy.

The 2016 SOLIDWORKS Design Contest attracted a lot of domestic teams and got great responses from the majority of people. The contest consisted of four groups, namely, "High School Practical Group," "High School Design Group," "College Practical Group," and "College Design Group." There are altogether 308 teams from various high schools, colleges, and universities coming to fight for the prizes. As a result, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won 15 prizes in "College Practical Group" and "College Design Group." It is the most award-winning school in the competition, fully showing the ability of its solid training and design thinking.

Solidworks International has cooperated closely with the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Southern University of Science and Technology for more than 10 years. In 2009, it donated to STUST 3D computer-aided engineering numerical simulation analysis software worth nearly NT$ 80 million. At the same time, it set up an international certificate authentication center in Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Through its integration of teaching practice courses, training in the southern international certification of computer-aided design talent has been applied to the development of new industries to help industry to enhance the design, analysis and testing and manufacturing capabilities. Over the past 10 years, STUST has trained more than 3,000 CAD and CAE talents and counseled more than 600 people in their acquisition of the CSWA and CSWP professional licenses of SOLIDWORKS International Professional Computer Drawing Cartography. STUST has also cultivated a great number of talents in three-dimensional drawing and engineering analysis for the industry.

In High school Practical Group, Zhongshan industrial and commercial High School won the gold medal with their work “Chain Without Chain," which showed their creative ingenuity by combining 3D LED lighting and a cup holder into a skeleton. In addition to provide lighting, it can also deter children from taking the cup at random, thereby increasing safety from them. In High School Design Group, Yongjing Industrial High School won the gold medal with their "New Drill Bit Sensitive Drilling Machine." With their innovative design, the 3D drill makes great use of finite element numerical analysis techniques to combine the new drill bit with the sensitive drilling machine. It can reduce the rate of wearing and enhance the convenience of assembly and maintenance. In College Practical Group, the STUST team, led by Professor Kie-Chong Lin, won the gold medal with their work "Education Expert," which integrates LED display screen, single-chip module, and teaching guide slots, allowing students to conduct electronic practice in an innovative and interesting way. Because of their overall design integrity and maturity, their design greatly impressed the judges and brought them an additional access to a special award. In College Design Group, Kaohsiung Normal University won the gold medal with their "Zeagle," a combination of the streamline design and the one-piece Z-like appearance, which elevates the overall design sense of the bike to a higher level. In addition to the advantages of sports and fitness, its appearance is very eye-catching, greatly increasing the value of the product sense of superiority.
