Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held the activity of
"International Students in the Chinese New Year": International students experienced the traditional New Year festival and wished each other a great year to come.

The Chinese Language Center and the International Affairs and Cross-strait Affairs Office, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, held the 2017 Chinese New Year's Spring Festival on the 25th of January and invited international students who remained in Taiwan to experience the atmosphere of traditional Chinese New Year.

Teachers of Chinese Language Center led their International students to the activity to make them understand the customs and origin of the Chinese New Year. They also taught students how to say the New Year greeting words and understand the meaning of these words. International students learned to know the traditional in their paper-cut art class; they created the symbol of the Lucky Rooster that is known to be able to ward off the evil spirits with words of great wishes. They learned to understand the beauty of traditional Taiwanese art at the same time as well as the meaning of using symbolic paper-cutting art to keep away from evil spirits.

In the dinner activity, students from other countries performed their own songs, adding a new look to the atmosphere of the traditional Chinese New Year. In addition, the Chinese Language Center also invited the winner of the winners of "Chinese Singing Contest" of the year to perform their dancing and singing, adding a lively atmosphere to the dinner. President Tai, on behalf of STUST and all the teachers, said “congratulations” in advance to all the International students, wishing them a happy New Year and giving each lucky money—a symbol of luck and wealth. He wished all the students a great year of the Rooster and encouraged them to mingle into the community, where they could experience the Lunar New Year and acquire rich knowledge of Taiwanese culture. International students also greeted their teachers with words of luck for the New Year, showing their thanks to teachers for their love and guidance.

International students enjoyed the warmth of the songs and mutual congratulations. They expressed their gratitude to the teachers for their loving care over the past year. In addition to experiencing the multi-cultural society of Taiwan, they also had the chance to experience in advance the traditional culture of Chinese New Year here.
