Cheers Magazine published the results of its survey on Top 20 Best Performing
Universities of 2017 in Taiwan: Southern Taiwan University of Science and
Technology, which has created great professionals in practice, was given acclaim for the 3rd consecutive years.

Cheers Magazine held the awards ceremony for the 2017 Top 20 Best Performing Universities in Taiwan and released its recent survey on the 7th of February at the National Taiwan University International Conference Center. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, under the leadership of its chairman Gao-Hui Zheng and its President Chien Tai, was given acclaim for its performance in nurturing great professionals with both professional skills and humanistic quality, while the university has become the industry's best partners.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has been given an accumulated 429-million-NTD grant for five consecutive years (101-105 years) by the Ministry of Education, through the Project for Developing the Model University of Science and Technology. For 11 consecutive years (95-105 years), it has been given 749-million-NTD grant by the Ministry of Education through its "Teaching Excellence Program." For 8 consecutive years (98-105 years), STUST has also been affirmed by Cheers Magazine as the favorite private university of science and technology by enterprises. In "2016, Cheers Magazine published the rankings of "Corporate Favorite Students,” with Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology winning the first of all private universities for the 8th consecutive year. In 2016, Global Views Monthly named STUST as the best private university of science and technology in Taiwan. In terms of Academia-Industrial cooperation, the year 105 saw a significant growth of grant exceeding NT$ 700 million dollars from projects financed by the National Science Council, the Central Committee, cooperation cases, and technology transfers, etc. Over the past few years, implementation results of Teaching Excellence Program and awards from student competitions have both seen a sharp rise, which shows that STUST is now in a prominent position.

Since the day Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology was founded, as President Chien Tai said, it has always positioned itself as "the best UST partner for industries." STUST’s technical and vocational education has been in line with the purpose of "diversity suitability" and "being practical and pragmatic." It has been entirely committed to "learning by doing" approach as a way to foster industry talent needed. After years of making its greatest efforts, STUST was finally unanimously endorsed by the industry. It keeps actively shaping industry cooperation and its campus environment, strengthening its interaction with regional industries, and promoting a variety of personnel training programs for industries. It has been trying to strengthen the core of technology research and development, enhance the amount of co-production capacity for teachers, and shorten the gap between learning and doing on the part of students. As for the Internationalization on campus, STUST has been doing a lot to enhance All-English teaching and teachers’ related knowledge and ability, promote international mobile force of students and overseas study and internships. STUST also focuses on five key areas of core technology research and development and promotes regional industrial upgrading and transformation, such as assisting Technology Industry Alliance for students and manufacturers to develop international marketing, working with well-known motorcycle industry to develop energy-efficient engines. In addition, in response to industry demand and enterprises, STUST also set up R & D centers to develop innovative technologies, such as Alzheimer's disease treatment, breakthrough key technologies for drug development, eye surgical positioning technology, supported by high amount of technology transfer contracts and effectively reduced R & D production costs. In addition, in line with the needs of enterprises and enterprises to set up research and development centers, STUST has developed a variety of innovative technologies, such as key technical breakthrough in the production of medicines for Alzheimer's disease, pupil positioning technology in eye surgery, brain control feeding robot technology. All of these have obtained great funds for technology transfer contracts, effectively reducing costs in running business R & D and production.

In addition, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology was authorized by the Ministry of Culture in 2013 to run the Tainan Cultural and Creative Industrial Park for 15 years. Through matchmaking different kinds of art and industry on it interaction platform, STUST has been working to make the park become a center of Taiwan's creative life and industry development. Taiwan Cultural and Creative Industrial Park is the only industrial park operated by university; it is also a model for the transformation of higher education. The park is now taking pop music and creative life as the dual spindle of its development, linking all the developments of pop music and cultural industry, fortifying the creative life of people to enhance the value of tourism in Tainan City, and turning the park into a popular music industry base in South Taiwan.

Meanwhile, since the first day of 2017, STUST has taken over the operation of the Innovation Center of Southern Science Park, which was originally run by the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. In the future, STUST will combine the center with the Southern Science Park, Tainan Cultural and Creative Industry Park, and the headquarter of innovation at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, fully committed to assisting young people in realizing their entrepreneurial dreams and effectively employing academic research resources to help SMEs achieve the goal of "creative thinking, innovative layout and entrepreneurial implementation" through counseling, such as technology transfer, patent and incubation.
