Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology participated in the 2016 Taichung Cup National Creativity Competition and won the gold medal of innovative service.
The Department of Innovative Product Design and Electronic Engineering Department, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, participated in the 2016 Taichung Cup National Creativity Competition, sponsored by the Economic Development Bureau of Taichung City Government. Their entry "Eyego Purchase for the Blind," which focuses on cross-disciplinary cooperation, shows great sympathy for the disable in its rich and innovative design. The entry was unanimously favored by the judges and won the award of innovative service awards.

The 2016 Taichung Cup National Creative Competition is aimed at encouraging the participants to engage in creative design and inventions and demonstrate the vitality of creative thinking through the application of innovative invention and competition. The winning innovative service "EyeGo Purchase for the Blind" was developed by “Blind Exploration X Team jointly directed by Professor Jia-Hui Fung and Professor Yi-You Hou. The team members came from the Department of Innovation Product Design and Electronic Engineering Department. The interdisciplinary team anchored its focus on local industries of Taichung, setting them as the target for service innovation design. They employed innovative knowledge, technology, and integration of target groups in need of new products or services, turning the whole thing into commercial interests.

Prof. Jia-Hui Fung of the Department of Innovative Product Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that "EyeGo Purchase of the Blind" has become increasingly popular with the use of smart phone by the visually impaired, as it integrates interpersonal communication and knowledge learning into the smart phone. The rapid development of mobile devices has combined the Internet of things shopping and the sensing technology to amblyopia or visually impaired people, bring them a more convenient life. Visually impaired people are eager to live independently rather than rely on others. The design of the visually impaired home shopping hardware and smart phone interface design is the major one, with the purpose of offering visually impaired people the joy and convenience of science and technology and helping them to be independent when shopping in a mall.
