Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology participated in the 2016 Intelligent Electronic Application Design Competition, winning 2 gold medals by its brilliant performance.
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology participated in the "2016 Intelligent Electronic Application Design Competition organized by the Information and Technology Education Division of the Ministry of Education and Electronic Design and Application Association Center. A total 362 entries from 85 colleges and universities participated in the competition, organized into "Product Design Group" and “Creative Concept Group." All the 148 entries of Product Design Group were completely implemented and came with a great design, from which only 15 were selected as finalists. Creative Concept Group selected 20 entries for each subgroup to be the finalists. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology came to the top of a number of contestants in Creative Concept Group, winning the "3C+ Green Energy Application Subgroup" and the "Internet of Things and Intelligent Factory Application Subgroup."

"Great Travelers Running for Fun" won the "3C+ Green Energy Application Subgroup." The team, directed by Prof. Chi-Da Chen of the Department of Information Management, includes four members: Yi-Jing Huang, Jin-Yi Lin, Wan-Yi Lin, and Yu-Ju Shih. The winning works uses web 2.0 to provide users a ride to outdoor and have fun. In addition to calculating the mileage, calorie consumption, to the designated location, there are a tour explanation, the application of GPS positioning, Google Maps Wait. The membership information subsystem can be used to manage the basic information of users, including name, height, weight, etc., so that cycling is not only for sports but also for fun. It further presents a combination of tourism and health management to achieve a wide range of applications and efficacy.

At the same time, "Spindle Doctor - High Speed Spindle Flutter Analysis System" by STUST IOT laboratory, directed by Wan-Rong Chang, won the Gold Medal in "Internet of Things and Intelligent Factory Application Subgroup" for Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. The team was formed by Yu-Ging Mo and other students from the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Department of Mechanic Engineering. With their self-made high-frequency acceleration sensor integrated with Android gateway and the cloud system, they are able to analyze the fluttering phenomenon of tool high-speed spindle. Through the online cloud system, they acquire data analysis; through the FFT fast Fourier calculus, they obtain the data by which they clear and extract the values. Furthermore, they can crystalize the relevant characteristics of the signal as a basis for comparison, detect the spindling in the high-speed rotation, and immediately return to the factory staff for immediate monitoring and maintenance. The results can be imported into the manufacturing industry in the future and improve intelligent machine and manufacturing industry development.

In addition, Yu-Ren Lin and his team won an excellence prize in "Automobile and Transportation Application Subgroup" with their "Smart Door Safety Lock." The use of the lens mounted on the rearview mirror of the car enables them to identify the "detection" to know whether there is a motorcycle nearby and whether the transmission can control signals to lock the door, so that the driver will pay attention to the purpose of the rear to the car. The system not only provides a complete security mechanism but also protect the life of motorcycle riders, and their interests as well. It can also effectively enhance the safety of parking and driving.
