Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the Application Software
Category Award in the 14th Yu Xiu Cup Creative Software Design Competition with the team’s app-based board game "Taiwan A-ha AR Amplified Reality."

Taiwan A-ha Team of the Department of Innovative Product Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, participated in the 14th Yu Xiu Cup Creative Software Design Competition (Software Application and Industrial Design Category), organized by Mitac Group. There were more than 1,800 entries to the competition. Taiwan Aha Team, led by Prof. Ja-Hui Fung, achieved in integrating education and playing into a learning method, with an attempt to inspire young people to learn the motive of learning about marine life by themselves. Players have to browse through the information of the museum and read through all the plates and signs about marine life to increase their marine knowledge. Eventually, they won the Application Software Category Award.

【Taiwan A-ha Team won the Application Software Category Award in the 14th Yu Xiu Cup Creative Software Design Competition.】

The team that created "Taiwan A-ha AR Amplification Reality Board Game” is based on members from the Department of Innovative Product Design— Junior students Shi-Tung Zheng, Jin-hua Chen, Jun-Jo Wu, Wan-Chi Zhu, and Hong-Bin Huang. They started from the seas around Taiwan and interviewed a lot of teenagers to get their ideas. According to the interview, most young people are not familiar with the ocean; they are not clear about which biological groups marine creatures belong to, nor do they know the characteristics of different marine animals and their natural enemies. Given that young people play board games frequently and learn from the games, including a wide range of language skills, social skills, memory traits, entertainments, etc., the team hopes that the board game they designed with marine biological food chain, along with the apps, can bring learning into entertainment for young people.

"Taiwan A-ha AR Amplification Reality Board Game” employs AR Reality board game to expand the virtual world of the game, with the purpose of helping young people understand the food chains in marine life. In the game, there are cards about the marine life, different groups of marine life, and the food chains in marine life. Attacking power and the skills of different marine animals are closely linked with the food chains in the marine life, so that young people in the board game can learn to live in order to survive the law of the jungle and the natural selection of the screen. Indeed, the game has achieved its goal to convey knowledge to the player.

"Taiwan A-ha" APP hopes to allow players to personally experience the sea museum, read the explanatory plats of the sea museum, and better understand the marine life. Ultimately, the player will surely increase the degree of intimacy with the marine life and become a good friend of the marine animals when the degree of intimacy reaches a certain number. The player can further understand the relevant details of the marine friends and play the "Ocean Questions" to increase his knowledge about the ocean.
