IoT Laboratory team of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won the second and the third places in the 2017 Warring States National Innovation and Creative Competition
The 2017 Twelfth Warring States National Innovation and Creative Competition, organized by the Office of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Innovation and Cultivation Center of Chung Hwa University, held its finals in Chung Hwa University, Hsinchu. From nearly 430 teams from all over the country, 52 teams were selected to enter the finals for the assessment of the representatives from industries, universities, and the government. IoT Laboratory team of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won the second and the third places with its works-- "Spindle Doctor: High Speed Spindle Flutter Analysis System" and "V-Protector: Intelligent Spectacles for the Visually Impaired Glasses" were awarded the second prize in the Entrepreneurial Student Group and the third prize in the Innovation and Creativity Group.

The work that won the second prize in the Entrepreneurial Student Group--"Spindle Doctor: High Speed Spindle Flutter Analysis System"—was developed by the R & D team directed by Prof. Wan-Rong Chang, Prof. Yun-Hui Liu, and Prof. Zong-Yue Tsai.
The team integrated their self-made high-frequency acceleration sensor with the Android gateway and the cloud system to produce the high-speed spindle flutter analysis. Through the online cloud system, the team completed the data analysis; through the FFT fast calculus, the team derived the data to clear and extract the eigenvalues. The team further fluttered the relevant characteristics of the signal as the basis for comparison by detection tool that spindles in the high-speed rotation, to see if the flutter is normal or unusual and immediate return to the factory staff as an immediate monitoring and maintenance. R & D results can be imported into the manufacturing industry in the future and drive intelligent machine tools and intelligent manufacturing industry development.

【V-Protector: Intelligent Spectacles for the Visually Impaired Glasses.】
In addition, the work that won the third prize in the Innovation and Creativity Group--"V-Protector: Intelligent Spectacles for the Visually Impaired Glasses" was developed by the R & D team directed by Prof. Wan-Rong Chang The team combined intelligent spectacles and an intelligent stick to help the visually impaired people avoid obstacles and barriers. AS visually impaired people in the outdoors may bump into some obstacles and barriers, the device can remind them and effectively avoid accidental impact from occurring. If they accidentally bump into something, the intelligent spectacles and stick would send out a warning through the sensor detection and by the communication module, which will also send the location, time, and other related information to their family, the hospital, or the police.

【Spindle Doctor: High Speed Spindle Flutter Analysis System.】
In order to continue to stimulate the creative ideas of young students to develop entrepreneurial knowledge and teamwork spirit and practice of theoretical knowledge in the application of entrepreneurship, the competition in 2018 will be organized and hosted by the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, as the 13th Warring States National Innovation and Innovation Competition. In addition to continuing to promote the campus innovation and entrepreneurship projects, it is hoped that the competition can encourage the majority of young entrepreneurs, in combination with the relevant domestic business base, to create common work spaces and breeding centers. As the themes of the competition is given an effective link to the team creativity and industry needs, teams can participate in the planning process and find the core values as well as the risks of entrepreneurship. As a result, the overall business plan will be more in line with market requirements, improve the business concept, and further be put into practice.

He said that STUST attaches great importance to students’ innovative creativity and entrepreneurial ability; a theory taught is just the structure and concept, the more important thing is to effectively apply this concept to solve the problem and then encourage students to innovate what they have learned. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has recently been pushing forward the hope that students can "graduate with their own company.” Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology provides a large number of special funds and entrepreneurial counseling resources; in addition to enhancement in the amount of research and development, it also comes up with industry resource integration through innovation and entrepreneurship education supported by its counseling teams, related technical transfers, and entrepreneurial activities.
