Associate Professor Yi-Chun Du of the Department of Electrical Engineering,
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won the 2017 Best College
Teacher of Tainan City in "SUPER Teacher Award" organized by the "National Federation of Teachers' Union."

Associate Professor Yi-Chun Du of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won the 2017 Best College Teacher of Tainan City in "SUPER Teacher Award" organized by the "National Federation of Teachers' Union." In addition to the recognition and the prize, Prof. Du will compete for national SUPER Teacher Award as the representative of Tainan City.

Prof. Du has taught in Southern Taiwan University of Technology for four years. He has held on to the principle of "teaching and learning and is also willing to be both a friend of his students. In addition, he not only takes his students as his own family, but also helps them to develop and maintain high resistance against pressure. Prof. Du is seriously diligent, actively engaged in teaching preparation, and always alert to the latest current affairs and the latest technology related to the curriculum. He can further associates all that with future employment and work relevancy, triggering students’ learning motivation and interest. Prof. Du also encourages his students to apply their knowledge and develop their ability and habit of learning independently; his lively teaching methods always keep him in a close interaction with students. At the beginning of 2017, he was award by the Ministry of Education the 2016 Year-Friendly Campus Award, as he was awarded the "Excellent Qualification" for four consecutive semesters during his stay at STUST for four consecutive years.

According to Prof. Ming-Shian Wang, Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Du has full power in teaching innovation, never rigidly adhering to traditional patterns; he is a great teacher of new generation, always keeping excellent interaction with his students; no matter it is teaching, counseling, research, production, his performance is always quite outstanding, especially when it comes to guiding students toward innovation and entrepreneurship. Prof. Du spares no effort in his teaching, always in line with the students of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology for educational purposes. It is easy to feel in Prof. Du great enthusiasm and vitality for education. He has repeatedly led his students to national competitions and helped them win many awards. It is worth mentioning that, under his guidance, the Department has for two consecutive years obtained the Ministry of Science and Technology Innovation Entrepreneurship Incentive Program award. In 2017, Prof. Du received 10 million from the Ministry of Science and Technology for nursery program subsidies, showing that he is marvelous in innovation and entrepreneurial leadership, not just on paper alone. Prof. Du has outstanding performance in teaching, research, service and production. Along with his rich experience in competition and research, Prof. Du is very close to the industry. Mr. Du has actively strived for manufacturers’ scholarships and donation of teaching equipment. With Prof. Du, the Department has been given a total of more than NT$ 600 million by manufacturers in terms of donation equipment, which is of great help to the curriculum activities of the Department.

As Prof. Du said, he is greatly honored to have the opportunity to be given the award! He is very grateful to be working with a group of excellent students and teachers and to be learning and growing with them together. His teaching at STUST allows him the opportunity to accompany students and make them feel sure of the goal of their lives. It is great to guide them to self-learning and social care, help them understand that honor is a lifetime brand, and work with teachers in their counseling. Even though it is tough to be a teacher as well as a friend with students, it is really worth a lifetime of teaching career when looking back at his own growth with the students. He hopes that every student from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology can have strong wings of serf-confidence, strong wings to meet their own days when they graduate.
