Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the category of “Thematic Project—In Love with Taiwan” in the 2017 International Chinese and Education Cup E-Book Creation Contest.
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the "7th International Chinese and Education Cup E-Book Creation Contest, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the National Library, the National Public Information Library, the National Taiwan Library, the Taiwan e-Book Association, and the World University and GOGOFINDER. The team of the Department of Leisure, Recreation, and Tourism Management, the library team and other teams from STUST outdistanced all the other competitors, winning both the first and the second prizes in the category of “Thematic Project—In Love with Taiwan” and the third prize in the category of "Thematic Project—Library Extension Service.”

In the 7th International Chinese and Education Cup E-Book Creation Contest, there were a total of 10,192 participants from 233 schools, with 782 entries open to online voting by 271,000 voters. Results of the competition have been growing, with participants increasing in number and the number of entries hitting a record high. It has certainly become the most important contest in terms of creativity for Taiwan's E-book publishing industry.

"A Passage to Greenish Garden in Central Taiwan," the winner of the category of “Thematic Project—In Love with Taiwan,” provides readers an easy-to-learn introduction to the tourist attractions, gorgeous foods, and different itineraries to help them understand the central region. Readers can quick have a preliminary understanding of the attractions in the district, plan the itinerary for their tours, and calculate the time they have to take to travel between the spots according to its detailed descriptions. It can efficiently and effectively helps the reader quickly arrange their own itinerary.

"An Easy Walk down the Old Streets—One Day Tour along the Pingxi Line" won the second prize. In a lively way, it introduces those attractive sights of each station along the Pingxi Railway Line, along with relevant information about the food. It also repeatedly used QR code, films and many other new techniques and new perspective to present to readers a different perspective from traditional publications for tourists, thereby bringing readers a fresh feeling. In addition, the Library of Southern University of Science and Technology won the third prize in the category of "Thematic Project—Library Extension Service.”

According to Zhi-Jing Yang, Library Curator of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology as well as the instructor of a winning team, it has been the aim of STUST to promote equal emphasis on both the academic and the technical and shorten the distance between the two distinct areas, so as to help students learn while working for the industry. In addition to its practical action to support students to participate in off-campus activities to understand the industry trends, STUST has been focusing more on the integration of design, technology, humanities and arts in the curriculum. With such pragmatic attitude, STUST has made great efforts to help students become specialized professionals. This can be seen in the students’ achievement in the national e-book contest. The fruitful results are surely the best encouragement for all the teachers and students in STUST.
