Global Vision Magazine announced the 2017 Rankings of Taiwan's Best Universities:
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the highest honor of the
"University of Prestige Survey" named the best private university and listed among top universities.

Global Vision Magazine and Professor Mu-Shuan Huang of the Department of Library and Information Science, National Taiwan University, together jointly announced the 2017 Rankings of Taiwan's Best Universities. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology had great performance in the category of "Academia-Industrial Cooperation Performance" and listed among the top 20 universities in Taiwan. It is also the only private one on the list.

Meanwhile, the Social Prestige Indicators showed that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology was ranked 19 overall and the first private university, thanks to leadership of Chairman Gao-Hui Zhang and President Chien Tai. As the Ministry of Education has been promoting the development of exemplary university of science and technology under its five-year subsidy program, STUST has gradually showed the fruitful results of its efforts and won acclaims from different sectors of the society.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has been positioning itself to be the best partner of industry over the years, keeping firm cooperation with industry and working on integration of production research and outside resources. Not only has it helped a lot of enterprises cultivate their talented personnel, it has but also solved the manpower gaps in man industries, assisted enterprises in developing key technologies, and established the concept that R&D should also show certain industrial application values. After tears of great efforts and thanks to the support of the "Model Development Program for Science and Technology" by the Ministry of Education (NT$ 522 million from 2012 to 2017), STUST has cultivated a great number of young people talented in both professional skills and humanities.

In terms of production and performance of academia-industrial cooperation, the total amount of external resources obtained by the school has risen from NT$ 370 million in 2010 to NT$ 702 million in 2016, which is 1.9 times that of the original figure. The total amount of cooperation from the enterprises (including technology transfer) rose from NT$ 112 million in 2010 to NT$ 196 million in 2016--1.75 time the earlier figure. Following Tsing Hua University (177), Jiaotong University (152), NCKU (150), Taiwan University (137), STUST is now ranked the fifth overall in its number of patent applications, which increased from 22 in 2011 to 132 in 2016. In the venture breeding, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology officially took over, on January 1 this year, the operation of the SME Center in South Taiwan Industrial Park, sponsored by the South Branch Office of Small and Medium Business, Ministry of Economic Affairs. In the internationalization of fostering and training, the Innovation Center of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has successful development this year with its counseling the new team ClefTEK from Singapore—the BASH-based AIRmaker accelerator in Taiwan. The new bilateral joint development of capital investment will certain speed up the following development of Taiwan in the market of Southeast Asia.
