The Glory of Taiwan: You-Chen Lin of the Department of Creative Product Design,
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, elected Mr. Asia in “Miss Mister Deaf World and Europe and Asia 2017.”

You-Chen Lin, a graduating student of the Department of Creative Product Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, recently took part in “Miss Mister Deaf World and Europe and Asia 2017” held in the Czech Republic. He emerged from 20 contestants of several different countries and elected Mr. Asia for his confident smile and professional catwalk, making the whole world see Taiwan.

In 2016, Lin joined the 2016 Hearing Impaired Style Talent Competition organized by the Rehabilitation Association of the Republic of China, winning the second place with his cheerful smile and well-studded personality. He also participated in the 2016 Catwalk Dream Star. Under the direction of teachers in the Republic of China Deaf Association and the Taipei City Fashion Art Association, he accumulated great experience through every large-scale competition, enriched himself, and began to show great self-confidence.

Lin said that the harvest was full in Prague with the best memories, not only because he was elected Mr. Asia, but also because he had great cultural exchanges with people from different countries, gained insight into cultural differences between different countries, and won great friendships with other participants. He is graduating this year from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. He knew that in the future he would face many challenges, but he would surely stay optimistic and keep a positive attitude. As he said, everyone has unlimited possibilities and should not underestimate himself. People should give others more encouragement. He hoped that after returning to Taiwan he share his own experience with other people with hearing impairment and encourage them to show their self-confidence side and keep running after their dreams.

President Chien Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that from Lin he saw a lot of positive and progressive strength. Lin’s story of success can encourage more people with disabilities to challenge themselves and move toward their dreams! Prof. Wen-Chiung Wang, Chairman of the Department of Product Design, said that Lin was outstanding at school, enthusiastic about participating in different activities and getting along with students. Prof. Wang encourages his students to develop diversified capabilities, hoping that through different types of competitions, they can show personal self-confidence and professional attitude.
