Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology participated in the 2017 Happy Dessert Contest and won the 1st and 3rd places in the National Finals of student group.
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology participates in the awarding ceremony of the 2017 Happy Dessert Contest, organized by Food Industry Research Institute and sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Industry, was held recently in "Taiwan Food Fair" held in Taipei World Trade Center. This is the fifth year of the contest. The theme this year was designated to be the use of fresh fruit in Taiwan for the filling. Groups came from the North, the Central, the South, and the East, where the preliminary and semi-finals of the contest was synchronized. Nearly 100 groups of entries were sent to the contest to be selected by professional judges before ten groups were chosen for the final. The teams of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, directed by Prof. Hong-Chou Tsai, were chosen from more than 100 participating teams, to be the winner and won the third place.

Prof. Chu-Yi Huang, Head of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that, in addition to their winning in international competitions, the teachers also painstakingly train their students and bring them repeatedly to participate in all kinds of contests in Taiwan-- baking, Chinese food, fancy bartending, and many other competitions. They have had great access to many international awards over the past years. The department has excellent teachers and innovated and perfect equipment for practice, coupled with food and beverage technology quality team. Each year they can win numerous awards with their dazzling performances in major food-related technology competition, including those by the Ministry of Labor, Taiwan national contests, international competitions, and many others. The theme of the competition this time was "Colorful Christmas,” which was organized by Yu-Chen Tang and Jin-Ping Luo with Tainan local fruits--mango and pineapple. The fruits were integrated into the stuffing, with great fragrance and a variety of nuts made into a tower. This led them to the champion and won them a prize money of NT$ 20,000.

President Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that the department has a number of professors specialized in food and beverage, who own Certificates of Hospitality Educator and many other technical licenses issued as a result of national brigade related test and skills test commissioned by the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Education. The department also belongs to the College of Business, which has just passed AACSB certification. In terms of both food and beverage management and the ability to create great food and beverage, the department has all the qualifications required by the International standards and is able to create a close link between its students and international catering trends. Prof. Hong-Chou Tsai combined his training with the course on weekdays in the school, creating an ethical baking square honed by the creativity and ingenuity, which has just won the National Happiness Snack Competition by the Ministry of Industry Bureau. This great win has fully demonstrated the success of STUST cultivation of students' Creativity and R & D skills.
