Welcome the New Southward Policy: Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology set up the Malaysian Alumni Association and signed an academic cooperation agreement with the University of Malaya and the University of Management Science, Malaysia.
In response to the government's New Southward Policy, President Chien Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, along with Chairman Wen-Long Chang of National STUST Alumni Association and Chairman Yao-De Wang of Taipei STUST Alumni Association, went to Malaysia to attend the establishment of the Malaysian Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology Alumni Association. The first chairman of the Malaysian Alumni Association is Bao-Kang Li, the Deputy Principal of Wenlong High School. Following the establishment of the STUST Alumni Association in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi in June 2015, the Malaysian Alumni Association is the second overseas alumni association for STUST. At present, STUST has had 139 alumni working in the United Kingdom, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, and other countries. International education has proved to be able to develop international mobile power in outstanding alumni.

President Chien Tai of the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, in particular, said that the establishment of the alumni association was due to the unity of alumni and the enthusiasm of Malaysian alumni as well as their efforts to overcome difficulties at the expense of themselves, with which the alumni of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology was able to extend its branches and grow more leaves. On behalf of STUST, he welcomed alumni group to go back to visit the school and participate in alma mater activities and share their experience with younger students.

Bao-Kang Li, the first chairman of the Malaysian Alumni Association, said that the establishment of the Alumni Association is to provide Taiwanese graduates with multiple job information and to help their alma mater to disseminate their information and benefit more Malaysian students who wish to study in Taiwan. Guests who attended to witness the establishment of STUST Malaysian Alumni Association included Principal Tian-Ping Guo of Malaysia Li Fung Kong Peihua Independent High School, Principal Songli Chen of Yongping High school, Director Wei-Quan Shao of the Department of Electronic Engineering of Guluan Chinese High School, and Director Kai-Chin Shen of the Department of Mechanic Engineering of Kuanlo High school ancient school.

President Chien Tai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology went to visit the Malaya University of Management Science, and signed a sister exchange agreement and student exchange agreement. As a result of the case of Mr. Mahmoud Zakaria Alsayed Abdalfattah Ibrahim, a doctoral candidate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering who went to Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology for his doctoral dissertation, the two universities began their academic cooperation. In the future, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology will continue to enhance the cooperation and research with the University of Malaya and the University of Management Science.
