  Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held the first High School Japanese Speech Contest: the first one supported by enterprises in Taiwan.    2017/11/13    

 

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held the "2017 National Senior Vocational High School Japanese Speech Contest" at the International Conference Hall of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology for the finals. The 15 finalists were excellent representatives who came to the fore after a fierce competition in the preliminary competition. They all performed very well. They showed their talent in speaking fluent Japanese with rich expressions. Chang-Wen Hsu from Shu-TE Home Economics and Commercial High School won the championship with her speech “A Careless Word.”

Dean Dai-Fu Huang, of College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Language Expert Sachiko Kuroiwa from Japan Association of Kaohsiung, Japan Exchange Foundation of Kaohsiung, General Manager Hui-Shang Wang of KINLIX Technology Co., Ltd, (also Director of Japanese Industry Training Center Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology), President Ueno of Finex Co., LTD, President Hisakawa Toray Advanced Film Kaohsiung Co., Ltd, Toray Advanced Film Co., Ltd., Prof. Uchida Ken of Tamkang University, and many other honorable guests attended the opening ceremony to encourage all participating students.

Dean Dai-Fu Huang, of College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, held that "language education must take root and foreign language learning must start at an early age." The result of language learning can be demonstrated by way of performance in a variety of competitions. Therefore, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held such a national high school speech contest and offered opportunities for senior high school students to publish their Japanese language learning and. It was hoped that students would be able to exert their strength in everyday practice and show it well in the contest. Meanwhile, participants could exchange their ideas with peers who participated in the competition together, learning from each other and sharing their learning experience. Dean Huang believed that it would greatly help students in the future as they continue with their Japanese language learning.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology belongs to the system of vocational education. It has positioned itself as a "university of science and technology that is the best partner of the industry." Therefore, it maintains good relations with enterprises and fully cooperates with the industry. This could be seen in the fact that President Ueno of Finex Co., LTD, President Hisakaw of Toray Advanced Film Kaohsiung Co., Ltd, and General Manager Wang of KINLIX Technology Co., Ltd were invited as the honorable judges of the contest.

【A list of winners in the 2017 National Vocational Senior High School Japanese Speech Contest】

For the first time in southern Taiwan, Southern Taiwan of Science and Technology held a national Japanese speech contest for vocational high school contest. It was also the first Japanese speech contest in Taiwan to have support and involvement by enterprises. Japan and Taiwan have enjoyed frequent and in-depth interactions in all fields, including high-tech industries, sightseeing and tourism, and culture and education. With enterprises working together to help nurture Japanese language talents, it is believed that they can find and encourage excellent Japanese language talents at home and deepen the exchanges between Taiwan and Japan at all levels. In recent years, Japanese companies have been increasing its investment in Taiwan. It is believed that there will be more opportunities for Japanese-language talents to show what they have learned in the future.
