The Ministry of Education announced the results of Higher Education Sprout Project On February 13. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology was granted a fund of more than NT$ 170 million. Its brilliant performances brought it first place of private universities of science and technology and sixth place overall.

Over the past few years, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has always been attentive to running the school. From 2006 to 2017, it has continuously received grants and subsidies from the Ministry of Education for its excellence in teaching. It has obtained a total funding of NT$ 813.81 million for 4 consecutive years (2013-2016) for the third teaching excellence project, becoming the only private university of science and technology to have received the grant (the other two universities are Taipei University of Science and Technology and Yunlin University of Science and Technology). Over the consecutive years from 2012-2017, the Ministry of Education Model granted STUST a total of NT$ 522 million for the funding project. Currently STUST are receiving more than NT$ 177 million from the Ministry of education for Higher Education Sprout Project. Such impressive performances made STUST the favorite private university of science and technology over the 8 consecutive years of 2009 to 2016 by Cheers magazine survey. In 2018, STUST topped the list again and stood among the Top 15 most popular private universities. STUST is the only privately university to have been listed among the Top 10 most beloved private university and the Top 20 University with Best Performance Improvement for four years in a row. All these have shown that the efforts and performance of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology have won recognition from all walks of life. The Ministry of Education has again highly affirmed and approved the higher education sprout plan by STUST. STUST will continue to move forward to the target of the board of directors: We spend on students whatever we take from them for our original intention of establishing a university of the first class.

The Higher Education Sprout Project by the Ministry of Education aims to foster diversified and high-quality talents at all levels and help universities develop their diversified features in order to bring about the overall happiness and prosperity of the country. Following the theme of "Associating with the Local, Linking with the World, and Looking Forward to the Future" and targeting at "implementing teaching innovation," "enhancing public education in higher education," "developing school characteristics," and "fulfilling social responsibility", the project can help universities develop their own teaching methods based on their own advantages, so as to meet the social trends and industrial needs. Students will learn to be enthusiastic, develop their fundamental capabilities and enhance their employability, ultimately achieving the goal of "adaptability and talent development," making the disposition of higher education more widely concerned with each student's learning needs, creating higher education value, and promoting social Innovation and vitality.

As Acting President Deng-Maw Lu said, in order to cope with the future development of higher education, the Ministry of Education will integrate resources and promote the plan of further education for higher education this year. It is very impressive that STUST won first place of private universities of science and technology and the sixth overall. STUST is grateful to the affirmation of the Ministry of Education. This honor should be attributed to the implementation of the PDCA mechanism by teachers and students in teaching and research in the whole school and the team's overall understanding of the forward-looking development of STUST. Acting President Lu further expressed that STUST will make good use of this funding to implement the each sub-project. All the teaching, counseling, and research and development can fully demonstrate the expected results of the project and enable all of the students to show their strength after they graduate. They will bring long-term effects on the social and economic development of the country and on their personal achievements.
